Two Decoders

I have just acquired an LGB 20231 and the instructions for this type of animal say to make it DCC you can install a decoder in the loco and the tender o_O is that either or, or both required to be fitted so that I need to decoders :nerd:

If it's got two motors then they both need to be driven through a decoder.
Two separate decoders is probably easiest, or you need a higher power decoder and some wires from loco to tender (depending where you fit the single decoder).

However, LGB 20231 is the "Fat Boy" with tender isn't it? I'm sure that's only one motor?

[edit]
... unless it's got sound in the tender, in which case that needs its own decoder (or wires from the decoder in the loco) to operate the sounds? LGB obviously think it's easiest to just plug a 2nd decoder in the tender.

It looks like its got a sound board in the tender from the pics - I have yet to take delivery so will only know for sure then.

The second chip is for the soune

Thats expensive, take two wires from the motor outputs on the first decoder and run these to the sound board in place of the wheels pickups
