Tram car destination boxes

Ok these are they version 15, revision 5, amendment 3.....Only 1 led needed for illumination and the leads are painted for insulation until they get into the bodywork where wire can be soldered on. the posts on the side screens fit into holes on the car roofs, the front ones will be held in place with wick in super glue ( 1 drop holds a ton).... After coming out of the mold they get a clean up to remove excess resin, then the rectangular areas where the actual destinations fit is masked. 3 thin coats of aluminium paint then sprayed on, this is to prevent the whole thing glowing when illuminated, then 2 coats of topcoat, the masking tape is peeled out and the destinations cut out and pressed in. They can be replaced if the wear or are souvenired from the last tram.
I'm pleased with the final product......
The first pic is of version 1 revision 1, the others sort of show the steps in manufacture.... I need to work on macro photography.

Really neat Trevor - what was the resin and hardener you used?

Polyester resin with MEKP hardener. But any transparent resin would do I found the really clear stuff did not difuse the led light enough. I'll try and get some pics of them lit up, they really shine then.....

The Circular Quay appears to be a bit of a puzzle :thinking::thinking:

Either all of the offloaded goods goes via a bridge, or the delivery ships are submarines

Circular Quay is the series of wharves that serve as the city terminal for Sydney's ferries. It is located in what originally was Sydney Cove. I'm not a Sydneysider so am unsure of why it was called Circular Quay, but given the horseshoe layout of the wharves it could be self explanatory. The tram sheds were located where the Sydney Opera House now sits, which is adjacent to Circular Quay.

I see that Chuffed2bits are advertising a scrolling LED station indicator (they also suggest that it could be a name badge...). Not sure about the dimensions but that might be used as a possible destination indicator perhaps.

I was a Sydneysider, I remember very well the canvas blinds on the trams to keep out the sunshine..... I don't know why it was called Circular Quay either, normally just called the "Quay". Maybe a bit too large.....
I'm trying to keep my tram routes as authentic as I can. I'm certainly no expert re Sydney tram routes, and rule 8 shall be liberally and enthusiastically enforced on my Tramway, as you will all see when I post pics of what I have done to the San Fran Cable car.....

Thanks Trev. They look interesting for 1:12 scale modern buses/trams. But as you say, not the right era
