At the same time the Selters-Hachenburg diesel railcar was seen ambling around the EG&SNNR:

I do like that railcar, have considered getting one... how does it run? Well? Any pro's/con's with it? Build quality? It certainly looks good out on your line.

I was well impressed with the railcar. Ran sweet as a nut and the sound unit is brill. Go for it!

Many thanks, guys for your comments. Bruce, I've sent you a PM regarding the Dietz railcar and will try to take some detailed pics later this week and start a dedicated thread in "locomotives".

The Piko 3-axle coaches are, I think, great models. They are heavy but they run nice and smoothly. Having had the TEE-livery 218 yesterday thought I would give the LGB V200 a chance to give the coaches a run:

Not sure whether the V200 (or the TEE livery 218) would have hauled the 3-axle coaches in real life but I think they look good with both locos:thumbup:

Nice loco pops and coaches

Thought it was time to run some Swiss stuff again. When I first got into Swiss I got hold of a first release Kiss Centre Entrace coach not realising at the time that the Kiss coach was was to full scale length whilst the LGB coaches were shortie versions. The Kiss coach was great ....but looked rather silly mixed in with a rake of LGB RhB coaches.

When Kiss announced that they were going to do a re-run of the Centre Entrance coaches - and produce a shortie version as well as the full length version, after much prevarication I ordered some green and cream shortie coaches which finally arrived last year. Today I decided to get them out for the first time:

Heidi was available on shed so was given the rake of three coaches to take up the spirals.....

42f53f6c7b204f8ea8e7f070298623bb.jpg

.....but, infortunately, Heidi did not make it - the coaches are quite heavy and Heidi could not make it with three coaches - only two reached the summit

One of the things that impressed me about the coaches is how close they coupled up together - not quite touching.....but quite impressive:

09fa5db71b2b4715a5d3e008aedec87c.jpg

Problems then started to develop - two coupling pins dropped out so two coaches lost a hook each (the Kiss pin does match the LGB pin for keeping the hook in place!!) and one coupling bar came adrift.....the screws attaching it to the bogie were too short. Luckily I had some longer LGB screws available so was able to effect a repair. For the rest of the day it was decided that Heidi would operate a short mixed train:thumbup:

Plan tomorrow is to run the centre entrance coaches with some LGB coaches just to see how they look and run together.....think Heidi will have to be replaced by something more powerful:thinking::nail: Watch this space:wave:

After Heidi having the run of the track yesterday it was time for Bernina to do some serious work today. Last picture taken today (others may follow tomorrow) as the sun was setting was of Bernina rolling it's train of green and green & cream coaches down from the spirals....first time taken picture from this position......

Seriously nice coaches Keith. Shame about the couplings - surprising from Kiss.
I would have guessed that Heidi would have manged three on your spiral - those coached must be heavy. Plastic or metal?

I've only got one Kiss coach, but the couplings on that are pretty rubbish too. The hook just droops uselessly.

Another week has passed and still running Swiss:laugh:. Heidi was starting to feel lonely so Rhatia has joined to keep her company:

Heidi still finds it difficult taking three centre-entrance coaches up the spirals (especially if there is a little dampness on the rails) but Rhatia, being a metal model, has no problems:thumbup:

Later decided to see what a double-header would look like:

The day ended with Heidi on a mixed train:

All in all, a good afternoon....bit of work and a bit of play.....and no footie:laugh:

Thanks, Fred, I'm trying to take pics of the trains in the garden rather than the garden with the trains - and trying to avoid pictures showing the house or garden furniture....think I'm starting to get there:thumbup:

Todays project was to defoliate the top of the mountain and cover everything with a weed-suppresant membrane......

....of course, a train had to run to keep me company:thumbup:......and today it was the pre-owned freight:bigsmile:

a57e5fc0ab974cd19fd1fb4164f4028b.jpg

Why is it called the pre-owned freight you may ask......it's called that because the loco and the freight cars were all purchased from GSM/GSC members on the GSM forum... The loco, Boston & Maine #1201 was purchased from GSM member (not currently on GSC) in Lincoln. This was convenient as my brother lives in Lincoln and could collect the loco for me:laugh:. The freight cars came from GSM members currently on GSC.....anyone recognise their own items?

The train wandered round the garden whilst I was busy getting rid of a wheelbarrow full of weeds removed from the top of the mountain. First pic is on Azalea Bank - the azaleas are starting their second year but the flowers are past their best:(

and later in the forest

Finally work was done and the top of the mountain was defoliated and covered in membrane. Plan is to get some biggish rocks and cover the membrane incorporating some pockets of earth to grow some small alpine plants....

f31826179102490c89e99d9177fdbd36.jpg

....forgot to say that the two aerated blocks at the front of the mountain are for the mountain chapel and a performing area for the alpine horn players purchased last year:)

Trains have now ceased running for the time being on the EG&SNNR - the big boys have moved in so the trains have seeked shelter until they get their track back;)

Work on the extension to the back of the house started last Monday....and is expected to last three to four months:nail:....so don't think many trains will be running during that time....the track comes quite close to the work area....and in fact one small section of track in the right-hand corner had to be sacrificed.

First thing the builders did was to start digging out the trenches for the foundations. Rather than hire a skip and create more landfill decided that the garden needed another mountain - so all the spoil got dumped in the middle of the garden:thumbup::laugh: Less grass to cut now:bigsmile:

7d85a87188ac48628ddde6219c229f9b.jpg

This evening decided to see how the track would look on the new mountain - idea is that it will climb the mountain before returning to ground level and rejoining the main line.....

ddd19a0e03e54a9fb7d9620ffeff393a.jpg

To stabilise the mountain it is my idea to use hollow concrete blocks (as used by Nick Trudgian on his fantastic Southern Cross Railway) and then face the blocks with recycled concrete (more rubble from the building project!!) as done on my earlier mountain and embankment.

It is also my intention to keep the gradient up the mountain to half-a-bubble on the spirit level (my trusted and well-known scientific method:laugh:). Looking at the track laid out this evening think it's going to take at least three, maybe four circuits of the mountain to get to the top......and then back down again. Anybody got any surplus large radius Aristocraft track?

Think it's going to me a busy few months ahead:rolleyes::bigsmile:

Some lovely pictures there Keith. Glad to see the building work has started. You will have to come over sometime soon for a running 'fix'.
