The ladder style foundations on some of my track need replacing, likewise several sections of log-roll that support the sides of the track, (some is nearly 300mm high). All this wood is suffering from wet rot. Previously I have replaced ladder sections with plastic, but what do others suggest to replace the log-roll? I might as well tackle both jobs at once, but I don't want to start building rock/brick walls.
 
Or you could look at Plastic Decking, will never rot. Bit more expensive than other options. But yer pays your money. Look at Filcris, they also do approx 1.5 Inch Square Plastic lengths that could be hammered into the ground to support the Planks.

I like that Gizz, it'll be very robust, but the problem is at only max 125mm high, I'm still stuck for the high stuff.
 
Jon, plastic decking could be cut in lengths and hammered in end ways. It wouldn't be tied together but there must be a way round that :wondering::wondering:

Galvanised heavy-duty wire, and staples along the back, perhaps??

Pretty sure there is a passable recycled plastics 'round post' available?? The osprey sanctuary SW visits when in Wales made a walkway out to their observation station with recycled plastic products..
No doubt it would be quite expensive, but would out-see us all.
 
I was fairly keen to get away from the round log look, as the grass always seem to grow up the grooves and the strimmer just doesn't reach it.

Galv wire could be stapled along the tops, as long as it was pulled tight. It would make fitting the stakes individually, easier.:think::think:

If not round, then the decking (vertical) idea would be good..
The 'Osprey' stuff was very heavy duty, Moulded as 'rough S/H timber', complete with the odd bent-over nail moulded into it.. Self-colour all the way through.
Another way to hold it together.. you can get a roll of galvanised steel strip with holes along its' length. - Think H/D Meccano strip on a roll!
You could screw this to the back of the boards / planks, and set them into a trench??

How much depth (back to front) have you got? Could you use Gabions, as an alternative??
 
Depth front to back varies from as little as 200mm up to 900mm (ish).

Just looked at some plastic decking in B a Q and I didn't realise how heavy that stuff is! Way heavier than proper wood.
