So here's the planning bit. A new fan of sidings serving an Army camp / RAF maintenance unit, not sure which yet .

Also, not sure if I'll have 3 sidings ...................

Mel, I'd not noticed before that you use strandboard or shuttering board as a base in some areas. How well does it stand up to the elements?

Is this where we all get to design your layout again

Pretty good Philip, I give it a good coat of paint and cover it in roofing felt............... eventually . I wouldn't want to put it at ground level though, all of these baseboards are raised up on legs.

If you go for an Army Depot Mel, there are some useful figures and vehicles available in Toy Shops that are pretty close to G Scale. These can be found at local Toymasters....

(Wonder if I can find space for an A10 fighter? )

Cheers Giz, I've seen them on BigDom's layout.

Or........a bigger baseboard.........more/longer sidings

Errrr, dirty great big aviary in the way Paul.

Train flap into the aviary?

Birdfeed wagon...

OK, maybe not. I reckon 2 longer sidings would be better, less is more and all that

Gives more room for some nice cameo scenes

After many weeks of having other (non trains) things to do and with the weather being the way it's been, today I finally got around to doing some more work on the Gooey town section. The baseboard was covered with roofing felt and the roadway laid to blend in with the track.

I also found some pressure treated wood left over from the deck to start making a nice neat edge.

The road was made from the plastic sheet I managed to blag from the kitchen fitters. A footpath runs past Corris Cottage.

Posted by: yb281 Feb 15 2009, 05:53 PM
Now the cars can cross the track properly when the train's cleared the crossing.

The "tarmac" extends to the forecourt of the fire station. The road disappears through an archway. Road markings will be one of the next jobs.

You can see the method of construction of the road here.

I think it was Don who mentioned trains running in the road-side verge on the outskirts of Welshpool. This is what I tried to simulate here................ until I ran out of grass .

Still moving buildings, walls, fences etc. around to see what looks best. I like this bit .
