As you may have read, Ruritanian Railways has recently gone on holiday to the UK. The fabled Wednesdays Only parcel train (with passenger accommodation) went through the Chunnel very early on Wednesday morning, though sadly only on the back of a flat wagon. It then made several runs over the WGLR.
The stock caused a degree of shock and awe due to the minimal clearances through what we understand is called "The Back Passage". A local photographer snapped what will certainly be a rare and sought after series of photos.
Finally a photo call was made on the Wetton Brook viaduct.
The stock is now back in Ruritania, but - sensationally - a complex set of deals have been struck which permit the Schoema to be put on sale in the UK. For more details, see GSC private sales!
Part of the deal involved export from the Czech Republic of this rather nice tractor. Unfortunately the controls (friction drive and a brake lever) proved slightly too sophisticated for the WGLR's resident grease monkey....

Last night I was telling someone about the fantastic shunting facility that we have recently discovered with the Cliff Barker battery RC kit. This got me in mind to have a day's shunting by way of a change. So I spent an enjoyable few hours running a train around picking up wagons and then dropping them off again at various points - Gooey interchange sidings, Gooey cattle market and Wetton yard.
By the end of the line this resulted in a pretty long train by WGLR standards ...........
............. but good old No.2 coped without any problems.
A couple of months ago I swapped explosive wagons with Bram. My new one has been shiney red ever since ...... until today.

I went to the Llanfair show with a small (ish) shopping list and I was able to get most of the things on it including a Back2Bay6 interior kit for the ex Cogges Railway Annie coach and various other bits and bobs for future projects like coach roof vents, lamp irons etc.
I also wanted some animal food related signs for the Wetton Valley Farmer's Co-Op coach body. I bought a packet of really nice real metal ones, but only one of them was suitable.
The rest of the signs will come in handy for the shops though.
I also wanted to replace the wire fence that separates the stone circle field from the railway and got some of the new slate/stone walling off Cain Howley. Just got to cement it in place sometime, when I'll hide the join.
The one thing I couldn't get was the coach to fill the new camping coach siding - but I've just found one which should arrive soon.

A word of warning here - the standard units didn't fit the area where I wanted it, so I thought I would try splitting a section with the old cold chisel. That's when I found how well made Cain's stuff is. The reinforcing bars inside the concrete would have held the Humber Bridge in place. I smashed up a sizeable lump of walling (luckily I had some to spare) and had to make a lot of repairs with P38 filler.
Annie the coach is now complete with the fitting of a Back2Bay6 interior which makes the compartment partitions and seats. I've also put in a few passengers.

We had a ride out to see Steve at Back2Bay6 the other day and I bought one of the Bachmann Emily coaches which I've been after for a while. Steve only had the brake coach left, but having some of the windows blanked out suited what I planned. I must admit that these are fabulous models, but I always intended that mine wouldn't move much.
All I've done is to remove the huge couplings, given the roof a blast with the airbrush to calm down it's really glossy finish, added the lettering (rub-down letters from Woodland Scenics) followed by a coat of varnish and made some curtains from plasticard (the paint has made them look worryingly like Draylon).

Bad news first. The per way dept's ballast train has grown recently with the addition of a couple of Piko bogie hoppers - problem is, when pulling up to the signal at Wetton ..............
........ the rear of the train still fouls the mainline.
The good news. Alison spent the morning giving her mum's bungalow a clean and tidy up. "Is this any use for you" she says?
