Today on the South Buckinghamshire Light Railway

That's very smart. There isn't much that Prussian blue doesn't seem to suit!

Any chance of a video with sound??

Looks terrific

Ade, that may be a challenge! I'll have to master the video on my iPhone, and then do video in one hand and the train controller in the other!

....and I've just ripped up all the track in my station area for a major relaying and re-aligning session.

Give me a while.....

Very nicely dressed:thumbup:

Busy weekend. Tree trimming, general gardening, a bit of running the line, and some workshop work.

Started on one of two Roundhouse semaphores. I've also got a couple of GRS bracket signals, but thought I'd start with the simple ones first. Need to try and find a DCC switch motor with enough throw to change the signal....

Looks like a nice little kit. Got everything cleaned up, drilled and started on the painting.

Then got back into some work on the Peckett

It will look better when the cylinders (off a Backmann Lyn) are fitted, the frame extensions on, Buffer beams affixed and various bits of work around the running board are completed.

Brought the signal box in for some TLC while the station area is being relaid.

And took the opportunity to tidy up the stock shelves.

...and I managed to watch the Chinese Grand Prix!

A lovely day here today in NW Florida. Sunny and in the high 70's, low 80's.
A bit of work on the new loop, but otherwise running - and testing.
The signal box has been relocated while the station area is rebuilt, so here the new East Burnham Junction Box with number 21 bringing a short freight off the Beaconsfield branch, while the temporarily installed signal holds the main line.

..and from another angle.

21 passing the new grounded box van which contains the electronics for the reverse loop.

1925 is brought to a halt at the signal.

Out in the country, 1925 takes a short mixed freight to Hedgerley.

Apologies for the photo quality, I'm playing with a new app on the iPhone called Pro645 which is great - but I haven't mastered it yet!

Really delightful photos, Martin. A friend of mine who is a professional railway modeller of rolling stock told me never to use washing up liquid on a model prior to painting but to use a pure soap (not a scented one) instead. Apparently, paints do not like some of the chemicals in w/up liquid and scented soap and this can eventually cause problems.

I have project to build a bridge.   It's in full view of the the lounge windows, so probably needs to looks half reasonable.  Anyway, we're about half way through construction.

This is with the Baldwin and cattle van, to give an idea of size.

It's built on a marine ply frame, which is sealed with diluted exterior PVA, then sprayed with undercoat. The 'bricks' are from kitchen tiles found at Lowe's.  They come in sheets, and the individual bricks can be separated off.  The capping stones are also from kitchen tiles.  These are stuck on with  both contact adhesive and waterproof tile adhesive (depending on where they are), then grouted.  The whole lot is then sealed with water resistant tile and grout sealer.  The non visible areas will be sprayed with Valspar stone paint (Ancient Ruin color) and then the whole caboodle will be sprayed with polyurethane  matt exterior varnish.  I'm sure the whole thing will fall apart after the first rain!

This is how the tiles come from the store:-

The trackbed will be sprayed with the stone paint, and then roofing felt under the actual track, with chicken grit ballast held together with dilute exterior Titebond 3, which appears to stand up to the NW Florida climate.

More later.....

Paul - I have just tiled a splash-back around the basin in a cloakroom at home in the UK with something almost identical from B & Q. I had looked at doing something for my railway with the left-overs.

So, today I noticed an interloper on the signal box...

I have now transplanted some moss around the footings so that will grow, given some luck.

I must also do something about the state of the grass in this area!

Talking of moss, I've found that watering the ballast and track with Miraclegrow makes moss grow really well. Both transplanted stuff, and on it's own, apparently from no where!

So, last week Hurricane Isaac paid us a fleeting visit en route to cause mayhem and distress in New Orleans. Nothing here but some wind and rain, but did spend last weekend putting up hurricane shutters and taking everything that could fly around inside. This weekend, put everything back and take down hurricane shutters!

We've got some landscapers here at the moment so I've persuaded them to lay some concrete for me to form the new and final loop. That means digging the trench for them and cutting out the tree roots. I'm too old for this. Also they are going to a lay a sort of mini patio for my new Farnham Common station, so I've also had to take up all the track in that area.

However have nearly finished East Burnham station. Just needs some ballasting of the siding and building the cattle loading dock and we'll be done there. Photo below shows the SBLR's Baldwin 'General Kelly H. Burke' pulled up waiting for the bag to put in. The second photo show the station in the late afternoon slack, with nothing happening but the buzzing of the bees......
