Would that be the motor block for the 'Train' battery driven 2-6-2 ?

It's cloned LGB.. ripped off and stolen from LGB.
They even admit the exact part they have stolen:

It fits well in the LGB locomotive series BR99-6001 if you want this to rebuild

China is infamous for this..
its an illegal copy of a LGB mechanism..quite a bit of this is being done in China.
It should be illegal, but the Chinese government doesn't care and does nothing about it.

China clones *entire cars*...
This story is over a decade old, but its still happening as much as ever:

Which is why it is not illegal - the law in China is somewhat different, even if a touch offensive, to some western nations.

But then we've been there before with the whole 'Newquida / Train' series :lipssealed::lipssealed::lipssealed::lipssealed::lipssealed:

Not forgetting of course that LGB went bust in the middle of their Chinese outsourcing experiment, so the Chinese wouldn't have had to look far :call::call::call:

So, I would say that this is a chassis from a Newquida 2-6-2 which, for that sort of wonga might not be a bad place to start with a scratchbuild project :nod:

Ah, it's our old chums at Zenner - they rebuild the cheap and rather nasty Train/Newqida battery-RC 2-6-2 locos into something more functional, so I'm assuming this is one of the rebuilt gearboxes that they use - in this case being offered as a stand-alone unit for anyone wanting to retrofit one themselves....

Or is it an un-rebuilt mechanism - at that price I'd have thought it unmodified :nod:

As I understand it, the main issue with the Newquida 2-6-2 is the limited function of the R/C - so a 10v 6-coupled chassis could be a good project :think::think:

If you were to look at scratchbuilding a chassis, the 6 wheels and 3 axles alone would cost twice as much o_Oo_Oo_O

well..its clearly a grey area, but I dont think its obviously "not illegal", at all, period.
I suppose in China it can be said to be "not illegal"..
but nearly everywhere else in the world has clear laws against this kind of blatant intellectual property theft..

So, if you are reading this inside China, it can be called "not illegal".. ;)
anywhere else in the world, its pretty obviously illegal if any company outside of China tried to do the same thing..

But then there is the whole weird concept of "if its made "legally", according to the (lack of) laws where it is made..then is it legal to sell, buy and use elsewhere?"
obviously its for sale around the world.. no one will get arrested for buying it..
so there is no real "legal" questions really, unfortunately.. only a moral one.

I also consider all of the Newquida stuff very obviously illegal LGB ripoffs..
I certainly will never buy any of it.. to me personally, its not a "touch" offensive..its extremely offensive.

I wonder..can you buy these in Germany?

Yes, you can - Zenner, as mentioned above, is a German company who specialise in modifying and converting the Newqida products, and there are several others who also use them as the basis for some rather nice models.

Well, back when I was a kid the Japanese were known for making cheap rip offs, now (and for a considerable time) they’re producers of the best high tech products. Same applies to the Koreans. The Russians ‘cloned’ many US aircraft following WW2. ....and my adopted nation (USA) was not above stealing (blatantly) British plans for jet engines and atomic secrets and then producing their own. The US even did it with the development of supersonic aircraft, ‘sharing’ UK research but not sharing back.
So, none of us are paragons of virtue. ;-)

Law is irrelevant unless the law makers are prepared to act to enforce it.
The Chinese can just do as they want because no one is going to take their business elsewhere. The only incentive for the Chinese to not counterfeit is money or the lack of it.
Newqida products were instigated by a westerner in the USA, not the Chinese, so it was western money that instigated their counterfeiting.
The only true 'free market' is the black market, even a Communist understands that.

I think, if you look at our hobby, then you will find that various (one-time) leading manufacturers "ripped off" LGB designs - look at early Bachmann stuff for a starter - and I'm not talking about locos or rolling stock rather the very basics of trucks (bogies) and their electrical pick-ups and couplings. Did they pay Royalties to LGB? I think not.

I, generally, cannot afford LGB products - so I have a couple of Train coaches to drag along behind what little LGB motive power I have. Similarly, I've made logging cars out of Train products (I see that the UK purveyor of Train products has cottened on to such ideas!).

If you have the financial resources to be able to purchase the genuine article then that's great but, otherwise, there are those of us who can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!

Firstly it is most certainly a Newquida Chassis Block from a 2-6-2. I have one on one of my shelves trying to figure out what to do with it. One of the pony trucks and the body was used in my Battery Mallett so what I have left is a 2-6-0 with the Valve Gear intact. At least if I try to flog it I have an idea on price.

Back to Newquida and the related Products. As I appear to remember some of the rows created when this stuff first appeared were almost or at least partially responsible for the melt down of G Scale Mad. Please let us not have a repeat of those days. Nothing wrong with avoiding Newquida if that is your viewpoint others welcome an inexpensive option for Scratch Building or modifications.

It all gets a bit murky! There's the problem that isn't most innovation taking the good parts of an original idea and making it better (or cheaper)?

At the risk of getting into an area that is frowned upon by our moderators, I would like to clarify this subject just a bit. It's not so much that the Chinese use tactics that are less than gentlemanly, but it's more of the fact that American business has gone to China, among other places, looking for cheap labor. So now those places have the technology handed to them. They don't necessarily want to give the knowledge back when their part in the process is complete, so now they simply use it to their own advantage.
