Just complete the new bridge.

The old bridge in the background is scheduled to be replaced by a similar style construction to the new one - providing the turtle doesn't demolish it before then!

This is probably a stupid question but as I'm not familiar with railway operations it has to be asked.

I've noticed a lot of people add additional rails in the centre of their tracks when they are going over bridges. I assume it's something to do stopping derailments but that is a guess on my part.

It's been said before many times no question is stupid, it's how we all gain knowledge. The rails you refer to are called check-rails and the rules on where to fit them vary from place to place. They can be fitted round the inside of a very tight curve to assist tracking of the axles round it. On bridges they are just as you suggest to guard agaist the possibility of derailment. Just a safety feature.

So, came home this afternoon after spending an hour and a half driving on journey that normally takes 25 mins at most - due to a sudden and very localized thunderstorm - and saw this little beauty striding across the yard.......

This is different one than before, smaller and a female I think (higher shell, the other one was flatter).

Now, what do I do? It's an Eastern Box Turtle - Gulf Coast Box at that, so not threatened (until now!) - but this can't go on. Any ideas folks?

If that is a nest (is that what you call a turtle's birthplace?) how long until the young emerge? After they do, I'd suggest concreting the bed of the "stream" and then replacing the gravel.

Checked out the hole, and there were no eggs - yet. It was just digging. So temporarily blocked of the route and lined the base with bricks, replaces the weed barrier and replaced the washed gravel.

Hopefully the little darling will concentrate on some of the other holes in the garden.

Well, we can but hope!
