It looks as if the railway has been there for years, James, and the sweeping curves really add that extra touch and are very realistic. (We went on The Cambrian pulled by The Green Knight today from Whitby to Battersby and return and there were sweeping curves just like the ones you have included.) On a number of your photos, it isn't easy to decide whether its garden or full scale.

Brilliant stuff James and some very choice pics. Bet it was hard putting the trains away after so much fun. If your like me the "just one more circuit" keeps happening for a while.

Superb pics again James, thanks for all the info on the transporter I've got a pile of plasticard, some IP wheels, (enough for two ;) ) and even a OBB gondola (£30 brand new of evilbay!!!!!) waiting on the bench and just need the bigger wheels to rewheel the gondola.

Thanks again for the lovely words people - and Paul, no problem, I'm glad to have inspired. My plan one day is to make something that would be working, and able to load the transporter wagons from a standard gauge interchange, but that's a pipe dream! This year is shaping up to be a good year already, the big Polish diesel kit, the LGB 'professional' Wangerooge starter set, and of course, the birth of my second child, Alex, in a few weeks...

Well I was over at the EJ&KLR today so as well as do some running there were some jobs to sort out...

The decking plank has not faired well as a platform - note of caution to others - it's been down about 6 months and it's twisted along it's length more than banana'd but it means it no longer lay flat. Last time I was at the EJ&KLR I dug out the foundations and buried a bit deeper which kind of cured it, well minimised the impact on passing steam engine's connecting rods, but with the recent spell of hot weather it's even worse today.

So out it came - and I went down to B&Q, stealing Mel's road surface idea and getting some cold-cure tarmac. Less than £7 for a big bag - and there is enough left to sort my drive too (I've a dodgy repair from the previous owner to repair!) - it's a bit black at the moment, but I trust it will weather in and be a bit more outdoor friendly than timber. It's quite a rough surface despite a good thudding with a brick, but it will be ok I think.

I also got some trains out for a play - the Schoema and EJ&KLR modern stock got a run - the recently repainted coach looking great in the garden, it was windy and I was worried about derailments so until the wind died down I got out the railbus - and then later the Rugens hauled various trains until it was time to pack up and come home...

Big news - my son will be born on Monday, if not before! The EJ&KLR will not be renamed, but how long before Alex has his own train?
