Thanks for the help, I was having trouble with the width of the rail head. I'd already cut some plastic off, I guess I will go back and cut some more :)

U class is awesome.
Agree about set track - sometimes it leads to more of a train set look, especially when confined.

I guess it's actually designed to fit onto Peco's own G45 Code 250 rail, so you have to modify it for LGB code 332....

Big news today guys...

After surprisingly short negotiations with the wife I can announce the Macclesfield branch of the EJ&KLR has initial planning consent.

I have agreed to a bathroom or kitchen replacement this year, in return for 1/3 of the garden. The only condition is it's completed to a high standard (as per the Chester branch) and includes a refresh of other areas of the garden at the same time.

I already have an outline track plan in mind. The area is roughly 14' square, and needs to have a washing line in the middle and an area to screen our three wheely bins. There is a diagonal height increase of about 20 cm which needs some consideration. Planning will start in earnest in the summer, perhaps with some track being laid early as I renovate areas of the garden in turn.

It might also be possible to include a link into the shed!

The new site sound interesting. I'd guess it has just enough of a slope to provide some interesting earthworks, without having to move half the county :D

Until I properly survey it I don't know. It needs a BIG leylandi bush cutting down so I'm going to have the issue of a big root/stump again to work around. The other difference is this will be a longer line (just) but not scenic'd in the middle, as that needs to be general landscaping so I can get a clothes line in, currently it's slate but I'll probably replace with some sort of gravel in a revised shape. We'll see...

Sounds like we're getting a kitchen by the way - rather than the bathroom!

I've my eye on this LGB Wangerooge set... although I won't need the R1 circle in the garden it'll give me some more 'different' stock, and a couple of straights too which I can use in the shed for stock storage. It will also give me another power pack to get going...

Today was a year to the day that Dad passed away and this whole project went from being a plan on paper to agreed for construction with Mum. I spent the day just playing trains and having some time to myself...

I kicked off with a track inspection and did some maintenance. I have topped up the top soil (no pun intended) along the front embankment, and then tidied up and freshened up the ballast along the top edge. I also generally tidied up the ballast edge all the way around the line.

I've had a lot of different trains running, including Dad's Shay with the logging cars, then the Frank S conversion hauling a logging train inspired by the Romanian forestry lines. Then a typical Steyrtalbahn formation with the U-tank, followed by a freight hauled by the Rugens. The last train was made up of the Zillertalbahn coaches I refurbished this time last year in the weeks after Dad passed away.
