Hi All, its good to be back again on here.

I have just bought a brand new 2-6-6-2 - does anyone have any ideas as to the best DCC/ sound decoder that I can fit into it. I know its plug and play, and also will take a 3" speaker.
Does anyone know of any UK supplier who can supply one asap
Thanks Graham

IMHO Phoenix sound units are "the best" especially for U.S. style locos.
As the loco is a model of a compound either their UINT or MALL sounds would suit best. You can hear a sample via their website http://www.phoenixsound.com/library/am_steam.html
For DCC go for a P8 sound unit, Scottish Garden rail (website down ATM) or Garden Railway Centres http://www.gardenrailwaycentres.info/shop/index.php?searchStr=phoenix&_a=viewCat&Submit=Go < Link To http://www.gardenrailwayc...=viewCat&Submit=Go should be able to supply from the UK. You'll also need a separate decoder, for this you could ask the forum's own Mark at http://www.gardenrailoutlet.co.uk/
Edit, for an all in one unit consider a Massoth XLS programmed with the Unitah sound file.

Hi Graham nice to see you back
You could try a QSI sound decoder this will just plug into the main mother board have one in my Bachmann K-27 .

Hi graham
While I totally agree with Neil that Phoenix are the best sounds overall (although ESU and even Massoth come close with some locos), there is the option of the QSI DCC sound card. The QSI Quantum is the older one that has been superseded by the Titan. They are plug and play with some Bachmann locos (the 2-6-6-2 is one of them) and there is a sound file specifically for the Bachmann 2-6-6-2 logger.....see here http://www.qsisolutions.com/products/techinfo/qaristo/q2_codes_steam.html < Link To http://www.qsisolutions.c...to/q2_codes_steam.html

I'd like to be proved wrong but I fear the QSI unit may not fit the requirement

??? Have a look at the qsi website Neil as they have a sound for the 2-6-6-2 and the plug and play socket on the loco is exactly the same as the K27 ...http://qsisolutions.com/news/09/bachmann-special-sounds-111809.html < Link To http://qsisolutions.com/n...ial-sounds-111809.html
Here is a vid of one actually operating in a 2-6-6-2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXljrPCP8V8</a> < Link To http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXljrPCP8V8

I think Neil may have been alluding to availability (or lack) of the Titan (or the old Quantum Aristo) if Graham is looking to acquire one quickly?

Ah, it was the "Does anyone know of any UK supplier who can supply one asap" I have my doubts about.

The 2-6-6-2 PnP socket is not exactly the same as the K-27.
The main ingredients are the same but the 1st chuff signal on the 2-6-6-2 has been inverted to what it should be. Unlike the K-27 chuff signal which is back to front electrically.
There is also a second chuff timer if you actually want two sound triggers.

Apologies to you Neil, I got the wrong end of the stick. Graham did say that he was looking for the 'best one available' ASAP and I just thought that the quantum would be good but did not engage brain and realise that the availability was the issue..
I have a QSI quantum programmer so can change the sound file on a board and if graham finds any old Quantum I could maybe change the file for him.

Hi to All Above
Thanks for the input - I have had 2 - 2-6-6-2 `s before and they were fitted with Qsi sound chips, by Dragon G Scale - who did a great job. This latest one Im not sure about, you hear so many peoples differing ideas with sound that its almost impossible to make a judgment - thanks for your help I will continue shopping around for now.
cheers
Graha
