some small open top crates

1880's Colorado Narrow gauge on 45mm track
Hi,

Some of you will have seen the crates that the 2 foot square paving flags are moved in ? possibly at builder?s merchants or the likes of B&Q.

I saw two of these open top crates locally in a skip, and having asked permission took a couple of photos and made a quick drawing as I liked the design.

From the information I made 3 of them; they are very simple, with the exception of the base cross pieces the rest is 3mm x 1.5mm PVC foam strip; the crates are 41? x 38? and 19? high. At the horizontal corners there are some (painted paper strip) ?steel strap? strengthening pieces and I added some on the top as well.

Here is a photo of them ? one loaded with 2mm limestone gravel, and the RH one being upside down, showing the base cross pieces - 3mm square; all different colours and finished off with a layer of coloured inks for variety.

dam nice petter, ,like it:thumbup:

Nice models Peter but I'm not surprised the prototypes were in a skip! I recently had sandstone for a rockery delivered in two of those; when I'd emptied them I thought I'd dismantle them to take them to the local tip.
There was about a zillion rusty bent nails holding them together, not to mention those nice metal straps too.
I ended up using a jig-saw to cut the wood up.

Grabbed a load of these from a neighbor a while back to cut up for kindling for the wood burner we have.
Absolutely fantastic burned like fire lighters.
BUT smelled like spring onions when you cut it and even stronger onion smell when lit.
Best bit was the £5 i got for the scrap metal and nails i collected from them

These look fantastic very realistic magic modeling :thumbup:
