there's nothing the matter with the diagram, it's just that I've either had a battery pack/motor combination that doesn't like the resistance or some other thing.

I have a 3v motor with a 4.8v 2450 mAh battery pack. What value resistor should I have at R1, and what colour stripes will it have?
