Simple 'DR' combine

I like an easy project occasionally. Started with a prototypically incorrect colour scheme and in attempting to spray a cream band above the window belt line I struck paint compatability issues with the stock factory paint. I stripped and sanded the car, ready to repaint and then decided a simple, though technically incorrect, red 'DR' combine (?) could be had. The prototype actually had wider bifold doors each side.

The compartment bulkhead is free floating to allow the coach sides to be flexed to allow the roof to be inserted. Simple door cutouts made in stock window opening. I may represent a door on the interior blank each side that is supporting the new side doors, but then maybe not. Now I will be able to repaint red and be reasonably accurate, with licence taken as regards side doors. Very easy project.

Steve,
I do like the LGB model. I have the red 'DR' combine, #31710. However, prototypically the car is not accurate. I wanted something with the extra windows, but could not be bothered reproducing the bifold side doors.

The Red DR combine aint far off. Im not sure of the DR lettering though but maybe when the HSB was state owned by East Germany this could have been right. The red colour is too bright though. However I have resprayed mine a maroon and re lettered to be more prototypical of a todays HSB combine.

Another bit of mayhem. Based very, very loosely on a Rugen fakultiv car (?), side door placement was compromised by retaining stock roof mounting lugs. Long way to go yet.

There is a brown 'business'(?) coach sometimes seen running on the rugen Island. Wishing something a little different I started to modify an existing coach to slightly resemble the prototype. I am not after a scale model, but simply something akin to the car.

I started at the corridor end with a few LGB coach doors and a bit of styrene sheet.

This is the observation end of the car. Rods will be added to 'support' the roof overhang.

Some progress made. Generic brown business car loosely based on the Rugen Island rolling stock. Second is a freelance 'DR' combine painted green to match the other high arch 'DR' coaches that I have. Neither car intended to be based on actual cars.

Final car. Loosely based on a Rugen work car. The prototype has different window configuration and a high arch roof. I opted for something simpler and chose a Saxon roof to match my Rugen coaches. Interior representation made.
