Signs of Spring 2021

On the basis that we do need something to look forward to and because it was a nice sunny day today I did some Gardening jobs. But while I was at it I noticed that Snowdrops are starting to do their thing as are the Acenits. Always bring a joy to my heart these little flowers, first to appear in spite of the cold and frost and the start of hope for better things in the Spring this year.

Yes we need something to look forward to - my daffys are emerging and, yesterday, I noticed a wild primrose starting to flower. We used to have hundreds around the hedgerows but we haven't see any since 2017.

The primroses April 2017 - the last time we saw them is such profusion (just before Sandy, the last of our first goats, died). These used to start coming into flower from the end of October onwards!.

Yep, my Japanese quince has had buds and flowers since late November - but I think the frosts may have nipped them in the bud as it were

Let's hope it recovers - ours got stopped in its' tracks with a late frost last year.

Just a day of warm weather and these little herberts decide to show off! I am sure it is early for the Crocus to show their faces, but a welcome sight nonetheless.

Not quite sure why but this spiky one is in fuller bloom this year than I have noticed before. Not sure what it is called if anyone knows. Barney showing his approval, he was 13 Easter Monday.

Jon, I think that is a blackthorn and produces sloes, the hedgerow at the bottom of my garden is the same.

Thanks Jimmy looks like a good year for them if the frost stays away, never done sloe gin but sloe vodka is pretty good.

Meanwhile, in the Antipodies, so are mine.... strange, actually, everything is supposed to be shutting down for the winter.
T'was a fine 20°C day here, and I'm on an extended Easter break (Annual Leave, use it, or lose it). Brownie points scored with enough gardening, then play trains all day.
Bit of rolling stock maintenance has seen all my logging stuff back up to scratch, few missing bits, odd couplers, peeling paint.... that sort of thing.
