That gunpowder van is exquisite. As you say Mel, a casting triumph. From a prototype viewpoint, I'm curious about it having end doors which means access from between the rails. Is it a model of a specific prototype, or a freelance item?

The other end of the 16mm train is now built, just got lettering to add and maybe a light weathering?
It's another from the Swift Sixteen range and based on a prototype (check out the website). It does look decidedly top heavy, so a goodly lump of lead bolted to the floor should produce a little downforce.

So, the whole train is coming along nicely. Sorry about the indoor photos, but considering what the weather's like outside ............ well, as I keep saying, I'm nowhere near as daft as I look.

He's supposed to be bringing out a protected Simplex (Tin Turtle) soon Rik which I'm also hoping to get. I think it will go well with the guards van.

Getting to the real business end of things now. The 16mm train is supposed to serve a granite quarry and these Binnie GVT wagons are ideal. Many of us with 45mm railways have built their skip wagons, but these ones are also great value for money and are complete with compensated chassis. They only come in 32mm gauge, but Keith has shown that conversion to 45mm is fairly simple.

I built the red one a few months ago, but picked up 3 more from Exeter. The one nearest the camera came in a deal with the Simplex and just needed painting, the far two were kits.

I've made a start on the weathering, but lettering will have to be done next.

You really have now got a spiffing little collection of narrow gauge stock.
The more that you do, the more it inspires me to have a little 'Brit' line somewhere in me garden.

Mel, the loco and the wagons look great.
When I built my GVT open to 45mm gauge I had to leave off the compensation as I fitted the axle boxes directly to the outer solebars, It still seems to run OK though (not that its had much opportunity to do so recently).
