Shades of the Harz - new home at Chasewater

:o great progress. keep it up guys

Looking great, and it would be nice to see the layout up and running. Count me in, I have a 2-10-2 and a rake of matching coach's I could bring along.
:D :D :D :D :D :D

Thanks for the encouragement..
We intend to add a continuous loop for times when we want 'something' running, but do not want to have to 'drive' the layout.. Talking to the public etc.

Things not going too well with the 12" to the foot 'layout' at Brownhills..
The second point has a lot of rotten wood, so that is another 186 inch and a quarter holes to be drilled to replace the woodwork for that point as well.. Seems every time you take a fishplate off, you find a dodgy rail-end.. Looking 'tight' for the first 'bash' of the year, 29th and 30th.
Point is in bits in the shed, and some rolling-stock has to come in for work as well, so it looks like the 'Harz' layout will have to come directly to the Heaths station.
Just hope for a dry day on Saturday 22nd when it comes over to us!

Have not posted for a while..
We have painted-out the room, though some could do with another coat.. White, on white is a PITA!
??? ::) ;)
Mounted some lights, but need sparky..

More (probably) after the weekend, when I have a little time to post some pictures..

A late catch-up..
Saturday, 22nd March

In the first couple of pictures in post #19, you will see a pipe sticking out of the floor. - Above the paint `bucket` top right of pictures.. The management decided that all the services should be behind the new wall, so we have lost about three feet of the room to allow for this.

Saturday, a dullish day, but at least it was dry to start with. - More on the weather later!  :(

Lorry arrived about 10:40, and it was only then we *really* realized what we had in-store for ourselves! A 7.5 tonne rigid, and it was pretty full.
There were two pallet-trucks on the lorry, so one used by Andy (the really helpful driver) and one by me. Andy manoeuvred the pallets onto the tail-lift and I off-loaded them round onto the platform..
Best part of an hour later, the pallets were all off-loaded, Andy had been thanked, and left.. we had made a start.
There were two pallets of buildings, boxes of scenic item, and `odds and sods`.. Couple of boxes containing trees (more on trees later, as well!). Boxes with the bigger structures in. - The station buildings, the rocket, control tower etc.
We have made a start!
Couple of pictures showing the platform `full` of pallets..

Will add more later.. babysitting duties call.

image.jpgYes the trees were a little basic, I`d used the same initially but found some finer ones made for garden centres. Fortunately I bought a pile in 2012 as they didn`t have them last Xmas. To be honest you have an opportunity now it`s in a fixed location to use near scale trees of 3-4ft tall if you can find some cheap enough.

We are 'challenged' for height, as the layout is going 'under the eaves'.. to trees we do have do not look too bad. There is one larger specimen.
Cost (as you say) will be a big limitation on how much, and how fast things progress.. We have to 'self-fund', so have some railway books (some from the auction), a little excess stock, and alla the 'junk' in the other end of the room..
Unfortunately, a lot of it is junk, so we will not make much from it..

Initially, we will have Wernigode running, which nearly goes to the end of the room..
Then we need to make the building 'safe' for public access. - Lights, power, handrail to stairs, 'means of escape' in case of fire. THEN we let 'em in!..

Stage two will see Brocken put up, and the re-working of the boards to bring it down the other side of the room.. Then new boards, and track, to make the turn to join the two up.
The additional 'outer loop' will be added to tis side as we go.. we will then go round the end of the second room, and when we get to the stairs, stop for now.
We will form the 'break-through' above the stairs, and at that point we can then take down Wernigode to allow us to re-model the back of it to allow the 'loop' access on that side.

The idea is that the main layout will remain DCC only, and the outer loop can be switched between DCC and analogue.
Have ideas that where it comes out of the stairs in the second room, that side of the room could become a 'Rockies / desert themed section.. A 'home' for the visiting US outline stock.

I reckon it could take us a year to get to that stage though..

i am challenged for hight too. :o
good on you.. keep up the great work, carnt wait to see it up and runnuinig
