Schiede T33 railbus and awesome working rail ferry...

Re:Awesome rail ferry at a German hotel...

Yes, I saw that a while ago - very ingenious!

Re:Awesome rail ferry at a German hotel...

The railcar is very nice I must say, The ferry is just insane! I assume it is propelled by something running along the bottom of the pond. There appears to be some sort of rampway at either end and you could see the ferry wobble as it left whatever was supporting it beneath. likewise as it docked at the far end you could see the ferry rising higher out of the water.
Very clever or very mad !

Super stuff !

Funny, isn't it, that the Germans keep referring to fahrts....must be all that horrible lager !

Re:Awesome rail ferry at a German hotel...

How long do you reckon it would it take you to convert one of those Newquida Harz carriages into a Wuena T33 James?

Re:Awesome rail ferry at a German hotel...

David - ha, too long!! Probably the easiest starting point would be the PIKO railbus - I did wonder about that...

However I'm hoping I've got a flat nosed LGB rail car lined up for detailing and re-painting later in the year for a lot less than a new PIKO set where I don't need the trailer. I think the EJ&KLR would have followed OBB practice and painted their rail cars blue and cream ;)

Re:Awesome rail ferry at a German hotel...

Yep, been there seen that. Very ingenious. I'm not sure that I would want to put one of my high dollar locos on a home made boat in real water however. You know Murphy is always lurking just behind the next rock.

Re:Awesome rail ferry at a German hotel...

Model of the "Wittow" ferry from the RUeKB. Artitech in the Netherlands made an H0 kit that is quite nice of the ferry. First I have seen it done in large scale tho!

A dear friend that passed away in April :( had ferrys on his H0 layout, makes for some interesting operational aspects.

I have this horrible feeling that someone from GSC will just have to try out their new submarine on that ferry. "Heroes of Telemark" anyone?

Indeed it is Spule - though rather shortened. the Wittower ferry didn't carry passengers though - they got off the train and travelled by foot. Freight only on the ferry. Now closed unfortunately as its on the Northern section of the Rugens.

Re:Awesome rail ferry at a German hotel...

Phil - it does look lovely! Shame it's a standard gauge prototype for me...

We've veered off topic a little - but does anyone actually have a photo with the Piko and LGB ones side by side?

I would be very interested in a constructional account as it would be great as a harbor ferry for box cars.

Apologies for the grainy picture - it's a scan of one of my older pictures taken in the early days of the EG&SNNR:

The T33 was one of my earliest purchases on my one and only visit to the Llanfair show. It was pre-owned and was on John Powers HobbyBahn stand. During the course of the day I returned to the stand to drool over the model. Towards the end of the day I plucked up the courage to start talking to John and, as they say, the rest is history.

Being my first purchase from John the railcar has a special place in my collection and will always remind me of John. RIP John.

Regarding the ferry there was something similar on one of the layouts at the LGB 125th Anniversary bash in Nuremburg....somewhere I may have some pictures.....but the problem is where. Phil S was there so maybe he has some pictures of the ferry......
