Saxony revisited, or Four go mad in Saxony.

Thursday evening four Puffernutters descended on various airports to all arrive in Berlin later that night. In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, we used the hire car to drive to Saxony - a couple of hours.
First stop - Mugeln on the Dollnitzbahn

It's Friday lunchtime and there are no steamers running, but this will do!


Up to Oschatz, over the curved bridge -

and in to the yard.


and return down the remnants of the dual gauge

Track renewals. There does seem to be a lot of money being spent on the Dollnitz.

Crap pictures but they are re-laying the Kimmlitz line - due to open later this year.

The gauge trans-shipment yard at Glossen . this is 600mm to standard gauge on 750mm transporters.

Then on to Rabanau for beer and Dinner - sat outside on the hotel patio in fantastic evening sunshine.
Come the morning we would have loved to have traveled over the newly rebuilt southern section of the Weisseritztalbahn. Hassle with funding for the subsidised running (as it nearly all is around here) means the lines not open just yet (June 19th we understand). So a trip in the car.

A little down the hill is Schmiedeberg and the famous viaduct across the middle of the village.

Then dump the car at the hotel and walk 'very' downhill to Rabenau Station to start the steam trip.

So, the steep walk back to the Hotel for more beer and food. An excellent day.

So, it is Sunday and time for a drive to Steinbach on the Pressnitztalbahn.
What a day we are about to have.
