Ruritanian Railways - 2012

Katie wiv red wheels, and Kaiser wiv black.

Mmmm. That's pretty much the way we understand Prince Rudolf is thinking too.
Mind you, the Stainzmeister has not yet spoken and his judgement is acknowleged as peerless. :admire:

After due consideration Prince Rudolf has decided that Mr Playmofire has the best taste and judgement. He is granted an Honorary Knighthood (third class). So "Kaiser Otto" is now "Der Schwarze" (the black one) with not a drop of red anywhere. The locomotive has been painted at the renowned Melworks company in England and was seen today on test at Wetton on a handy nearby light railway.

Ruritania's two other Stainz class locomotives will remain in the paint scheme used since 1998. It is understood that Princess Katarina exerted some pressure on her father to maintain the status quo, not least as locomotive number 7 bears her royal name. It has to be admitted that after nearly 14 years, the engines' livery has acquired a certain patina which is hard to define, but evocative of many happy moments.

The two engines have an illustrious history, being the first and second to run in Ruritania. Over the years they have acted as testbed for many of our small, yet perfectly formed land's railway innovations. Fitted with the MTS system in 1999 and 2000 respectively using 55020 series french fried potatoes, the twins pioneered the national standard control system. Upgraded later to 55021 equipment, the twins are again today at the forefront of Ruritanian locomotive progress.

Zenda depot has now converted both locomotives to battery power using the Barker system as proven on Ruritania's Schoema diesel. The twins can be operated singly or in multiple as seen in the photograph below. Considerable advantages are expected from this development. First, the conversion saves two 55021 chips which may be used for new motive power or offered for purchase to other railways. Second, elimination of the carbons required for MTS pickup will make the locomotives suitable for running round the royal palace's Christmas tree. As Princess Katerina was heard to remark, no one likes skid marks in their ballroom.

More progress on Ruritanian Railways!

I must admit I'm not the greatest Stainz fan in the world (he lives North West of me), but the black one has got me contemplating a make-over on the WGLR's example, cos she sure it perty.

So who (or what) is Percy? ................. or is that a Ruritanian Royal secret?????????? :nail::nail:

I have to admit, I really like that. The livery is very well suited on that loco.

There is a touch of the SkGLB in that all over black livery - cool. Nice to see the 'spare' extra transfers I chucked on your sheet found a use too!

Well I could tell you, but Princess Katarina, no longer aged 4, would have to kill me. Then you. :nail:

That Princess Katarina is a bit of a "stroppy mare" I reckon, gets her own way a lot does she ? :rolf::rolf:
Resistance is futile. :nail:
Ruritanian Railways' MD does owe her a considerable debt for past contributions though. "Now Ma'am, which did you say you liked the look of: the goods van or that rather nice green bogie coach?"

On the other hand, this was what she bought Prince Rudolf last Christmas:

I do like the idea of battery locos in multiple, what connectors does one use whilst connecting the locos together? Does this mean you only need one reciever?

Mr Playmofire is greatly honoured by the generous award of an Honorary Knighthood (third class) by His Majestic Excellence Prince Rudolf.

And "The Black One" does, indeed, look remarkably smart. It is also pleasing to see the original livery retained for the other Stainzes, showing that Ruritania has the ability to move ahead whilst retaining links with its heritage.

Zenda depot's foreman advises as follows:
You may use any connectors you wish, so long as they have two pins to carry the output from the receiver (i.e. substitute for track power). Ruritanian Railways uses LGB lighting plugs, but BEC connectors are more common. Yes, you only need one receiver in the trail car, but it needs to be rated with sufficient amps to power both locos and any headlamps of course. In this instance, RR uses a Cliff Barker receiver rated at 2.8 Amps which should be more than adequate even for the much-feared ascent of Pootank Pass.

i just cottoned onto the multiple running. very cool. how do you make the lead locos headlight come on but not the train loco - or does the lgb switch do that- can't remember.

I think the foreman performs witch craft in you Zenda Depot, making trains move without elastrickery is a dark art.

Although It is impressive and I may steel their idea, industrial espianage at its finest.
