Last year I was introduced to a guy who lives 9 houses up the street. I was told that he had a model railway in his shed, so curiosity got the better of me and I went to have a look. What I found was a OO gauge layout running around the inside of the shed with digital control equipment. Although it ran ok some of the track was poorly laid and I found out that Ron (who is 84 years young) was struggling with his eyesight. He is blind in one eye and having blurred vision in the other, so much so that he was thinking of selling all his railway stuff. The next day Ron came down to see my garden railway and was sold on it. A railway that he could see again.
The next week Ron's shed was broken into and some loco's and digital controllers were stolen as well as some stock. The following week his wife was taken into care with dementia and he found himself alone, and without a railway. I borrowed Ron my "world of LGB" book and after a few more visits to my garden Ron decided that he was going to sell the remaining OO stuff and start to purchase a LGB starter set. The insurance paid out on his stolen OO gauge stock and Ron ended up purchasing a starter set, a Ulok, several straights, 6 points and 15 R2 bends as well. I agreed to help him lay some track down and at present we have a double track circuit with a loop on each track and also a siding on each one. Here are some pictures of what we achieved last year, some of the loco's and stock are mine on loan.
