Hi Richie
Good to see your voice again
Lovely pics.
Peachy view of the trestle
The snow has finally become manageable and I have had a good look at the extra bits and pieces that have succumbed on the 'Beaver Creek'. Its not all bad news and has given me some scope to do some changes for next year.
Your layout really 'enjoys' the snow don't it?

Very nice Richie!!!

i wouldn't bother with the paintshopped smoke effects, try something more natural, a kettle boiled under the trestle, take the lid off then put it on, take shots as steam rises around and above engine, or you could go for the fag smoke through a pipe behind the engine like they used to do on Thomas The Tank Engine (ok so it was probably fog liquid) just an idea

I do think those steamys look good in black.

Hi Mike , Kim & Keith A Few more pics of the first freight to run in the snow :D Have always wanted to run in the snow what with modelling the Rio Grande really shows off the black locos, would love to build a model of the Rio Grande Rotary plow OM . My daughter made me a great video with title writting and music and put several clips into one but had no luck loading it on You Tube so have just put 2 short videos on the forum . Glad to hear its not all bad news on your line Mike look forward to seeing your planned changes have you been able to run in the snow yet ? Like the idea of the boiling kettle Keith to give smoke effects .

I got mine from Bachmann at the Warley show a few years back for £100 i then added the Rio Grande Southern lettering

The black Annies are really nice with great motion activity. I have two on the layout but they find the grades a little daunting without help if they have to pull a couple of cars. One of them is in bumble bee livery and looks cute. The Bachmann Annie is a good value loco but they are prone to stripping their main drive gear cog. Luckily they are not too onerous to fix

I, like you Richie, have used my own transfers to rename this Annie to 'Beaver Creek RailRoad'

One or two cars is the most that ol' bumble' can pull up the grade

Well I like them even though they need more attention than LGB. I have never been able to get the rear light to work.

I also have two of the old Bachmann Big Haulers both repainted in Rio Grande , #9 is a battery remote control loco was Santa Fe Green , #49 is electric and was also Santa Fe but red . Both still run ok but don't have the detail like the Annie.

Not sure if the pm got through Richie so here is the text again...apologies if it did!

Hi Richie
Thanks for the articles. A goodly script. A nice story to tell. I wish I had had the pictures of me own build as the ones in your piece really do help to give ideas for others.
I also liked seeing the plan as I too can now place your picies from the forum.
Although I have had no scope to really put a good trestle in my layout (I only have a twin track 3ft long x 6inch high one spanning a 'gully'), seeing how you did yours has given me the impetus to attempt something.
It will need some not inconsiderable civil engineering let alone permission yet again to destroy (sorry...amend) a sizeable chunk of the garden along with a large section of the present layout....but who dares wins, Rodders.............

On the plan it all may take place on the far right part of the main and local line where it veres away from the Beaver Creek Quarry as there are many large bushes which due to the snow have had a fair bit of damage and could be totally altered (euphemism for a heel of a prune) to allow the local to do a 'spiral' and maybe even have a contrived reason to do a loop over the mainline.....we shall see.....maybe it is time for some long-term sucking up!

Nice pics Richie......
Could'nt run at all here.......the first snow we had turned to rain for a short while and then snowed again.
Under the snow the rain had frozen......impossible to clear ice out of all that track without damage occurring.

Must have ago at building a plow ready for next season like the idea of a rotary .

Well Richie....although I did not get the opportunity to use her this snowfall........
I got her from a guy in the States who had mispelt his eBay title and had not put the correct category etc. The upshot was that no-one had found it and I got it at a anip...very rare occurence and I did feel a little guilty but she has working rotary and sound of steam engine boiler hiss and pop. I beefed up the electric motor inside so that it would be able to handle deeper snow. Got a time to test it on a short snowfall last year and she does the biz but I think that this years lot would have done her in!
