Ah, yes. I remember them Jimmy! ...and the adders. We don't have those here, and the crawfish snakes are harmless. Some of the others are a bit vicious, but they tend not to come into the garden.

Dozens of different lizards though.
 
We have only two species of reptile here - one is a Newt and the other a Frog - St. Patrick supposedly banished snakes!

However, we suffer tremendously from slugs and snails (Gastropods I think), with vegetable growing a 'no-no'.

Captured on the camera a long while ago was this large one - if I'd switched the power on there would have a dead short (and snail or whatever it is!).

It put me off pickled Gherkins for life!

Try getting those out of the valve gear at ten o'clock at night!
