Can anyone tell me if this module can be used to control a signal? Basically in the same manner as an LGB switch drive/supplementary switch combination.

Does this help? It probably does but if I may ask why do you need something as complex as this?

Product Description
1 Piece DPDT Signal Relay Module Board.

This item has been assembled, and electrical test passed.
Japan FUJITSU TAKAMISAWA high quality signal relay, FR-4 Fiber glass PCB, darlington transistor driving relay, LED indicator for relay action.
Size: 50 x 34.9 x 16 mm (approximately 2" x 1.37" x 0.64"), PCB thickness: 1.6mm.

Power Supply: 12V DC / 30mA (relay ON).

Input control signal voltage:
0V - 0.5V Low stage (relay is OFF),
0.5V - 2.5V (unknown state).
2.5V - 24V High state (relay is ON).
Input control signal high state current:
2.5V: 0.1mA
5V: 0.35mA
12V: 1.1mA
20V: 1.9mA

Relay:
FUJITSU TAKAMISAWA RY12W-K signal relay.
Contact Material: Gold Overlay Silver-Palladium.

My question is how does this thing work? I think I can determine where the power leads go by the diagram posted on the auction page of Ebay. Then it looks like some sort of triggering is needed to throw the DPDT switch.

Basically, I want to control signals with something inexpensive. Using reed switches, I want to have the loco pass over them and throw the DPDT switch one way as it passes over the first, then the other way as it passes over the second. I really don't want to spend the money on EPL switch drives and supplementary switches. I know there's a simple way to do what I want but that way eludes me at the moment.

OK have I got a simple solution for you! I control the signals on my tramway with reeds and magnets and although I went to extremes and made PCBs its a very simple circuit and can be easily made vis Perfboard/veroboard. It also has a relay which controls the current to the controlled section to automatically stop collision but that is optional and I don't use that with radio control. Now all I have to do is find it and post the GSC link.

My blog delves into it in more detail.....
