After years of trying to offload my old Railway Modeller magazines (1960s through to late 1990s) I've given up.They've just been consigned to the paper bank, but not before I removed any article that might have been of interest to someone on this forum. There is G scale, gauge one, SM32/45 and more covering layouts, plans, conversions, scratch build with the odd feature on trams etc.. I'm not going to sort them out so just the one lot. All I'm asking is the postage (£2.90). The extracted pages weigh getting on for 2kg and will have to be sent RM small parcel. Please PM me if you want them - first come, first served.P1040880.JPG

I 'inherited' boxes of old magazines that were really cluttering up the train shed, so I took them along to one of our exhibitions, and 'gave' them away to the kids that took an interest in my layouts, or had a go at my shunting puzzle. One greedy trader offered to take them off my hands, but I knew he'd try to sell them on his stand.

Another thing I used to do with throwouts, was to leave them around the lunchroom at work..... they never seemed to last long, other staff would take them (for their kids?.....). Many a modeller has been 'outed' using this approach.

I tried to sell them at 10p per copy, at several model shows and even car boot sales but had no takers. I've got the full run of Continental Modeller from the first issue (a one-off special initially) right up to 1999. Haven't had the heart to treat them to the same fate ........ yet!

That's why I give them away... my bit to promote the hobby, and, too many 10p pieces wear out your pockets.

Mags after the late 60's went into such large print ripins that it is pretty well impossible to sell them these days, yes I have tried at Shows, Ebay, Swop meets and Boots Sales. What I now do is Razor the Articles that interest me and bin the rest. So life enhancing to see all that shelf space become available, room to build a Micro Layout!

The big problem with removing articles, or any 'archive', is indexing...

Other than 'I think I remember..' how do you find anything?:(

Yes it is difficult to even give away hard copy magazines (that's hard copy!). Everything new is online now or at least that's how people want it. They can print the few pages they need to study carefully if they want, and it goes a long way to solve the problem of indexing.

I tend to put them in Plastic Wallets then use File Dividers in a big File Folder for subjects such as Loco Build, DCC Tips etc.

Looks like I might have to go through this lot to identify items of interest. Or then again another visit to the paper bank a couple of hundred yards away. If I put them in plastic wallets weight-wise we're moving into the larger parcel field with the associated increased costs and I don't think it's worth the effort.

I'm going to regret this...

How tall is the pile (roughly)?
About an inch Phil. That's 25mm in new money - slightly more than half-gauge!

Go on then...

They can always 'be going to Chasewater..' - Funnily enough, I have a lot of stuff that hasn't got there! ;):lipssealed::lipssealed:

I could be interested on any and all magazines or clips.
Pleaste, tell me postal cost to Argentina and packing charges and I will send money to you.
Regards
Jorge
