Railway and Garden Re-configure Thread

I used to also grow veg so I had a section of the garden as a veg plot. I don't have the time and need more space for the kids. The garden is being entirely ripped out and a new lawn laid through out. The railway will be edged with sleepers (what else!?). I'll post progress on this thread.
First the before pictures (you can see the boys like digging!)

Skip, sleepers and more gravel (I am going to increase the railway both at the end and the side, as well as graveling a border at the front of the house)

Backs aching but fence removed, concrete post footings dug out and path between beds skipped. More tomorrow

 good man, thinking of the familly, and sorting the railway, looking forward to seeing it happen

WOW looks like you got your work cut out there Ian

Thanks all for the encouragement. After three days at it I am at the "what have I done? how am I going to finish it?" stage.

So shrubs and plants dug out, small shed at end of garden demolished and skipped, started to lift track and remove ballast. First sleep dug in (man that's harder work than it looks) to illustrate the land grab made :big smile: I should now be able to have two running lines and a station. Now i have a clear view of the railway i can see how hilly I had made it accidentally. Brunel would be horrified. Anyone got a smart idea on digging trenches? back is killing me.

Kind of the latter. But essentially it will be the same lay out but a bigger yard at the bottom and some loops/sidings on the long drag. I have just decided to bit the bullet and do a proper job of leveling it all and a solid edge before I lay the lawn.

Looking forward to the open day bud.:thumbup::rolf::rolf:
Me too- i'll be the one in a back brace lol... Sleepers are HEAVY. digging trenches to put them is much harder than it looks!
it should make a good open day railway, lawn to hang out on, railway round the outside...

As long as you've still got a fridge, a kettle and a groaning dining room table, we'll be fine mate.:bigsmile:

Nice work!

Should be finished by the end of the Whitsun Bank Holiday then....

Wooden sleepers are normally considered to require 2 people to lift or move on the full size railway. We'll let you tell Mrs CR..... :nail:

So a nice evening has enabled the trenches for the sleepers to be completed. Everything on the railway side becomes property of the CR. Need to think how to use the space soon...

Looks a whole lot better Ian. Top tip don't put the little fence back in, it may cause an accident:nerd::wits::bigsmile::bigsmile:
And sleepers are only heavy when you lift them :rolf:

Notes being taken i also have plans to extend ( Permission granted )

i would have hired a mini kubota rather than dig by hand, but then i'm lazy and have a account at brandon hire as often use scaff towers for work
