Quick question on Piko DCC central station.....?

Does anyone know how cross-compatible the Piko DCC system is with Massoth? Specifically, could a standard blue Massoth Navigator (as opposed to the Massoth-made Piko-branded version) be used as a (tethered) controller with the Piko DCC central station, or are there hardware or firmware/protocol differences that prevent this?

The reason for the question is just a vague idea about a small portable layout, and wondering if one of the small and relatively low-cost Piko stations could be used to run it rather than lugging a 1200Z around - but using one of my existing Navvys (in cable mode, wireless wouldn't be needed) rather than having to buy the overpriced Piko controller too?

Anyone actually tried this?

Thanks in advance,
Jon.

I have seen a massoth controller hardwired into a PIKO central station and it worked to the extent of controlling trains. I can't remember if it controlled sound. It was at an indoor meet and I was called away to do something.

In wireless mode, then a Massoth controller appears to work with a PIKO central station, and a PIKO controller with LGB MTS 3 to the extent that we controlled trains, changed points and got sound.

We haven't had chance to sit down and test the boundaries beyond that.

Thanks Chris, that's very useful - have a "like" from me! Anyone else got any experiences of trying similar mixed-equipment setups?

I use the piko this way on my smaller basement layout with no issues at all. It also works with the massoth wireless equipment.

Thanks! Do you run it off the "proper" Piko power supply, or just any transformer that will supply around 5 amps?

Jon.

Just seen your post . I have a Piko system with wireless Navigator I also have a Massoth Feedback decoder feed to the Central Station through a splitter. With this I can run a Trolley Line with two intermediate stops and also a Passing Siding Loop activating both end switches as described in the Massoth manual . I think the Piko system is Great have had no problem with it . Hope you don't mind me putting my bit in . Thanks Frank
