Potentially dodgy LGB on ebay.co.uk

If you really think there is a problem then contact Astons, the auction house, and inform them their "copyright" images are being used by another party on Ebay (provide them with the links). This is against Ebay rules and if Astons see fit to contact Ebay to protest this should stop any shennnanigans.

Personaly i dont have a problem with the bloke.. ( I HADNT MET HIM BEFORE HAND) when i met him at astons he did come across as slightly unsocailble... and the way he has bent the truth regarding photos, descriptions, etc is not strikly cricket.... from my experience and i know a few like him from auctions they buy huge quanities (tens of thousends of pounds at each sale) and have to turn them around quickly to earn a small profit....This leads to them having to "cut corners" its not that the stock they sell is defective its just the buyer doesnt get a "personal" service..............As i said before i was the underbidder on most of the LGB there that he or any internet bidders bought.... I know i won more of the LGB than him but unlike him ive spent the weekend cleaning, sorting, Playing/sorry testing, and genrally enjoying the experience.. though the wife may not think so with the consevatory and living room, hallway and office covered in Railway.... realisticly it will take me 2 weeks to get it all listed but hopefully i will have sold half and got my money back for another day and the remainder will join the railway collection in the garden for my troubles
I know profit is a dirty word and a lot of the comments on here (not all) are born from jelosey but it was an open auction...anyone could bid and both he and i only won the things we did because nobody bid any higher

I to must admit to purchasing items to turn a profit...
Once purchased a complete secondhand MTS starter set via the tinternet, seller offered collection only. I then promptley took out the two locos and sold the rest for more than i purchased the whole set for

There by increasing the loco fleet by two for absolutly zero.. its called buisness.

The only time it becomes a problem is when it affects a person you know..

Yet you mentioned earlier that you approached the other chap bidding for the same items with the purpose of limiting the bidding on certain items to your mutual benefit .......... not the seller's & auction house's. What was that about "open auction..... anyone could bid"? Just as well for the seller that there were all those pesky 'phone bidders and that the chap didn't want to co-operate.

You are being a touch self serving I think. Or am I being a little old fashioned here.

No thats not buisness its Just being sencible i (and the people that know me from here will confirm) (i hope) earn as a lorry driver just enough to keep the electric from being cut off and the landlord from throwing us on the street so any chance of spending tuppence on a garden railway would soon have me in the divorce courts. the only way i can enjoy this hobby is to buy collections, keep what i like and sell the rest.. it means i have the railway i want for money i can afford.... its dam good fun as well

Its an auction The seller (vender) has a chance of putting a reserve (the price he wants to sell for) even if i was the only one there i cant buy it for less... but whats the point of two people constantly trying to out do each other for the sake of the size of there ego or wallet....after all we all want a bargin.......if someone on here sees a loco on ebay and posts a mesage oh i wouldnt mind that then hopfully out of respect the rest of us wouldnt bid against him (well i wouldnt)...... the phase its an "open auction" is that any one of you could have walked in phoned up or bid online and paid more than i did.. and some did thats why i didnt buy it all... i have a limit of what i will pay my valuation of an item will be different to other peoples.. remember im indending to buy stuff i want to keep in which case il bid more but equally other stuff if its cheap enough il buy to sell on for (yes a profit) to help pay for the items i want to keep... i dont run many LGB locos or stock so any of that i bought i believe i paid the right price for to sell on but the track and buildings i wanted for me so there was no way on this planet i was going to be out bid
The train set this post was started about sold i think for £420...... if you wanted to buy it new its £1100... sec hand on ebay i did sell one a few years back for £750 so anyone wanting one could have bought a bargin... i bid to 400 that was my limit for something i didnt want for myself but i didnt stop any of you from out bidding me

Did you clear out the other 3 big model train auctions that were on last week as well?

It seems a bit daft that the auction houses don't check with each other to make sure that they don't have competing auctions on the same day(s)!

I dont do Vectis dont really know why and Reading im good friends with Neil as ive been going since to first ones but this year he has gone to upmarket selling expensive single locos etc and i perfer larger lots so didnt go this year but i did have it on line but still didnt buy anything Astons was good because it was a genuine collection and worth going because of the amount there.. and yes it is a bit silly holding them at the same time but the prices were still very good so doesnt appear to make any difference...... i do them because i enjoy it i could borrow the money and realy get serious doing it full time but i tried it once and it takes over your life.... did you get anything at Reading

Tony

As far as I know I didn't buy anything at any of the auctions, just watched the prices. If I came home and and dumped that lot in the living room I think I would be looking a divorce!:rolf:

The guy on ebay sent me more pictures for am item i enquired about, a specific shot too that i asked for, the pics were not "stock" ones. He states the items are now in the UK and next day delivery can be arranged for anyone winning an item.

Another thing to consider is that if anything is wrong the ebay return address will be Turkey and will be very expensive and you have to use this if making a PayPal claim.

That's possibly true Steve, but if you keep your receipts for return of the item under a claim then Ebay/Paypal (depending on how you proceed down the claims route) will usually reimburse you for these costs.

Well well well...three holes in the ground....and the holes that someone could fall into are back on ebay. The guy that Tony bid against has put the same stuff with the same ex auction photos on to the ebay site. Mmmmmm anyone want to pay over the odds for equipment that is not of the highest quality?

No surprise at all, as we've discussed earlier no-one with a faintest clue about what they're looking at will bite at those "optimistic" prices. It's like that batch of silver re-painted and r/c modded models, some if which are still going round again and again months later.
