Posted Photos Not Displaying????

Hi,
Just a couple, quick questions. I
posted an album of photos related to our model railroad program and they are showing up on my end in a group in the album fine but when I try to click to view certain individual photos, our name and photo description show up but where the enlarged photo should be is blank. Do you folks get the same thing or do they come up fine on your end? If not do I have to re upload them? Be aware that on my end a few photos work fine???
Also, what is the limit on photos as we would like to display many more photos of our program?
Appreciate any help here!

It could be if you are a new member the fourm software is doing this to prevent spamming..after a probation period you get full acesses

We're not new but we may know the cause. We reduced the size of each photo to 75% and that may be the solution as it seems to work better.
Oh well, we'll see!
Appreciate your help!
Ken

Hi Ken - I saw your post yesterday - I did not know which section of the Forum you were trying to post on until this morning (Media). As you now realise, the pics have to be below a certain size (below one Mb) I think.

I liked the big top (circus tent) and tried to give it 5 stars. Then an error message came up saying I must post a comment. So I did - but it still came up as an error when I tried to rate it (stars). A bit like a 'chicken and the egg' situation for me.

Yea, I think because we were re posting the exact same photos and descriptions at 75% and then deleting the older larger ones that were not displaying when you clicked on that album photo. I think this may have temporarily left the originals that were not working right and that may be where the issue is.
I appreciate you trying, really do and I think it would work ok on the resized photo, but not sure when things are changed like that. I hope the original, large photos actually get deleted and there is no more confusion as we were just trying to overcome these problems and let the public see more of how our program works.
We'll try to resize every photo from now on.
By the way, do you have any idea on photo limits?
Thanks for the info.
All the best! Ken ISKOT

There's no lilmit to the number of pics (although there might be on the number per upload - experience will determine this).

I think the size limit is one thousand megabits so anything below this works. As to the physical dimensions, this would be determined by the aforementioned bit size and the number of pixels per inch (as in quality).

I'm no expert - just a person that has suffered the vagaries of MS and FFox!

Others' more info technology minded, may well confirm or reject my understanding of things!

Appreciate it!
We'll go with that for now and try uploading more.
I do thank you for helping though.
Sometimes learning takes some effort, but it's worth it in the long run.
Thanks! Ken

Hey Ken - I think what you're doing for your local kids is just great, but maybe your picture posting problems are down to sombody trying to restrict them deliberately. I just had a quick look through your content and there is just too much posting of random anonymous kids. If we don't know who they are - what their names are - and what their story is - there just seems little point to me. You obviously have a lot of good train stuff that's of great interest to the G-gauge community, so let's see a lot more of that - and a lot less kids.

I am not aware of any mechanism whereby another Forum member can restrict another members posting, other than the Moderators or Administrator, who of course have the ability to delete posts/threads. Having said that, I am inclined to agree with Trainman 864 regarding the content of your posts. We are generally about the posting of railway orientated photographs, with random exceptions from time to time, and, I am as guilty as any in that respect, but I wonder if what you are attempting to achieve with your media postings might be better suited to some other form of social media. No offence intended.

Folks,
Everything posted is related to G scale and this program, but if photos are appearing randomly without our knowledge, I have not seen them. Many, if not a majority of the photos of this program are of kids in the program or related directly to it.
The program is mainly garden scale trains and posting information on large scale sites is a way to lead the publics interest in this hobby to the site and hence the hobby. It also brings manufacturers, hobby retailers and families to the site, not to mention, it provides the opportunity to educate children in railroad safety.
As far as photos go we display pictures of model railroad or related material that incorporates what this program is about and display anything related to the history of custom projects within it.
For example, the photos of Bobby Driscoll the child actor from Disney.
The public voted that due to Walt Disney's interest in trains (and since Bobby was his favorite that shared in this interest) they wanted our custom Disneyland Railroad locomotive named after Bobby.
But due to Bobby's tragic history and Disney Studios not administering the credit for his accomplishments due to there embarrassment over the issue, we decided to go with what the public wanted and build the locomotive and name it after him.
This then requires an explanation to the public as some may not remember him or his relationship to Walt, his trains & his film accomplishments as a child.
This is why his photos were posted in relation to the custom LGB locomotive.
We also post winners of trains and kids running them as well.
I don't know if a lot of kids come to this site but I can tell you that we are directly related with every single facet of the G scale community in one way or another, including just about every manufacturer.
We have no intention of posting on social media sites as they are more prone to crime and problems that are all over the spectrum as well as they don't provide people who have an legitimate interest in the hobby and some even want to cause intentional harm with us.
I know some duplicate photos were supposed to be deleted and others remain but I don't know how that came out correctly on your end.
We want to simply share the large scale hobby in an effort to keep it alive with the next generations as a way to combat electronic media.
It's been said that this is a loosing battle but 500 to 9000 children enjoying the program and the trains at each event tends to make me believe that there is no foundation to that.
Either way we are the last large free railroad education program in existence and we hope that what we post here will enrich the lives of everyone.
If not please let us know and we will be happy to remove it.
All the best!
Sincerely, Ken c/o Imagination Station Kids On Track Model Railroad And Train Safety Program

Sorry about triple post, not sure how that happened as we only pushed post once, but maybe the administrators or moderators can remove the extras for us.
Thanks so much!

I think what you are trying to achieve is commendable. I can also understand your reticence about social media and its' affect on young minds - let alone the predators that trawl those sites. I totally empathise with your motives as well.

When I'm out with my trailer display in summer, I do get genuine interest from children. I answer their questions and, if they want, allow them to view the operation and maybe even control the trains.

Ours is a tangible hobby - one of creation, operation, and maintenance. We use skills learnt or passed on to us. We know where a pint of milk comes from (in the first instance at least). Today's kids are savvy about IT hardware - and would beat me if I never left the starting post - yet, to them, a pint of milk comes from the supermarket (end of story)!

Whilst this site and forum is great, protected and regulated - and you have to register to post - there is a slight downside which means that nearly everything can be viewed without logging in. I only mention this for you to consider if showing children enjoying and taking part in model railway activities.

As true as it is, and it is, this is the closest to secure as we're ever going to get (short of our own unaffordable website and the technical knowledge to opetate it). For us it's kinda the difference between not seeing this hobby fully expand to the next generation vs. sharing a small part to spark interest. There are too few events now days (and they are getting fewer every day) that allow for large train displays for the public to view and have interactions with.
It's also very expensive to take it out to them and funds are always low or non existant.
We just do this for educational fun and safety for families and to get folks interested and involved and hopefully, if costs don't inflate to much more and funds stay available, then we will have this program around for a long time to come.
Keep up the great work with your trailer display and if your not charging a fee (or if you are), be sure to put out a donation bucket. It probably won't pay all your expenses but it'll help.
Will check out You Tube!
Thanks! Again..All the best!

Hi Ken. I ask for expenses which covers diesel and other consumables. I only travel to shows that agree to this. If it is a charitable event I usually waive my expenses.
As you know (and said) it is expensive - particularly the capital outlay!
The shows I travel to are mostly vintage or agri types and the hosts usually see the railway as entertainment!

We haven't charged anything from our start through 2016 and donations were almost non existant, so this year we are basically going to do the same thing as you in as to require that expenses are covered except some charity events, as you mentioned. If you're not careful event operators will take advantage of you and we all know they make substantial profit and can easily afford to take care of someone who is a significant part of entertaining and promoting their event.
I don't think the public will come to the aid of an organization that isn't responsible in who they interact with thus causing financial decay or decline.
Things are just waaay too expensive anymore to give everything away free all the time and still keep it going.
We have, as of this day, done this for 27 years and I hope I can keep going financially for a while longer, however, it's not looking very good right now for the future if we don't change something.
I really am impressed and admire you for sharing your trains in a similar way and thanks for the ideas!
Believe me I know the work and effort required.
Hope you have some volunteer helpers as that is even harder to come by here than finances are.
Day by day I guess!
Anyway, keep up the good work!
Ken

27 years! Wow. I've only been on the road for 11. Yes, you're right about being taken advantage of! It has happened a few times to me and I've learnt my lesson - no return visits to those people!

As for volunteers, sadly no. My wife is my helper - but failing health has made things harder for us both. I have a R/C 'Kill' switch so she can stand and look on and hit the button if something derails or gets interfered with whilst I attend the bathroom (Portaloo)!

Great that you have a helper at least!
We don't have RC except our MTH Freedom Train. Keeping cost down ya know. The public still enjoys operation the old fashioned way though.
