Hello fellow garden railers!
I know many of our members run the excellent playmobil 'City Diesels - (the yellow one, usually bought as a set)
I purchased one last year for my grandaughters, who love it! However, the traction tyres have now worn out and I am having problems aquiring spares. Does anyone know of a supplier?
Many thanks in advance. Graham - 'Wistow Vale Rlwy'

Here you are:

Playmobil can supply spares of the other parts of the diesel shown on the instruction leaflet that came with the set if you need them.

I just purchased the freight set from an Ebay seller. Less than $100.00, including shipping, to the door. I know some of you that have purchased them are quite happy with the train. I'm looking forward to receiving it.

They are excellent value for money Dan. Simple to opperate, with a good range on the remote transmitter. Directional lighting and sound - what more can you ask for! And, as many have done on this forum, easily bashed into something a little more realistic. (Not that they are too bad as they come) My granddaughters love theirs, and it means that they can use the railway without putting my 'proper' stock at risk.
Have fun!

Now if only you could buy the Loco and Transmitter without the rest.. ;D

At $74.99 plus the $22.00 shipping I paid for this one, you can't go wrong buying the complete set. The first one I came upon on Ebay was selling for $149.99 with free shipping. I thought that was a bargain until I searched a bit further. You could sell of the parts of the set you don't want and make up most of you initial outlay.

I was thinking if you wanted a fleet. - Well two or three..
Though I picked up a nice little Playmo-based diesel the other year at Stafford in the member to member sales.. Pity the older kit doesn't have a facility for lights and sound.. Though could add 'diesel' sound easily enough, and probably a LED or two quite easily I suppose?? Depends what the ESC gives out.

If this is the little R/C battery diesel it's easy enough to convert it to a front light at least by tapping off the battery from the top of the motor block. I'll find you a link about it.

Old style block.. Blue controller, with a 'brown' crystal. - Think it might have originally been a steam outline (from memory, the wheels have webs and holes for them, but no rods fitted).

That's a custom body on a Playmobil block.
Did say it was plamo-BASED..
Would still like to add a lamp.. Could run it in the evening then! ;)
The block seem to be childproof, so what chance does an adult have!! ;) ;) ::)

There are two ways you could add a lamp. If you turn the loco upside down and look at the closed end of the battery holder, you can see two squares of copper. These are the battery contacts and with one of myPlaymobil locos I soldered a piece of wire to each and then connected it to the front mounted lamp, using an LED from the battery diesel version of the Playmobil R/C train. This worked fine, the lamp being on while the batteries were in the holder.

The second way means taking the motor block out. Later versions of this have two points where power is tapped from the battery for LED lights (see here: http://www.walts-playmobil-collection.me.uk/RC%20Motor%20Blaok%20New%20without%20PCB.jpg). Yours probably won't have these, but if you drill in the correct area until the drill is just through the plastic casing, you can then screw in a couple of self tappers which will make contact with the copper strips below and act as terminals. I've never done this, but I am told that it works. Try it at your own risk.

With both methods, you then just need to source an appropriate lamp and wiring etc. and fit it.
