Piko TEE

Well, an impressive looking train! Also, a very creative piece of video - I found that impressive too:thumbup:

that's a very impressive video

Like it....

While I like this train the coaches look way too short to me. I know these coaches were fairly short on the real thing but I would love to know if they are in proportion or not. Must say I was disappointed that the garden rail review made absolute no comment on scale or proportions.
This could have been my first euro lok but when I saw the model I found that to me it just didn't look right because of the length. Everything else is about it is great.

I feel quite sure that the famous rubber rule that LGB used has been reissued to Piko to enable R1 running capability. For the price of the unit, scale length would be a requirement. That aside, I have seen a German video with a seven car train length and it looked very nice. Alas, purchasing not only the initial three car set and then four more cars plus sound decoders would stretch most people's budget.

Looking at the video of the Piko model, each coach has 6 windows, whereas the video of the real thing here,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0p5erN2_4gU

the coaches have 7 windows.

Never the less, I feel it captures the feel of the prototype quite well, and I could accept the compromise of the shortened coaches.

It wouldn't be the first time this has been done either; Hornby did the same thing to their first models of the HST Mk 3 coaches....

So the length scales out to 1:28.5 which is good but the coaches gave less windows than they should . Does this men the height, width and windows are to a different scale ?
I can understand shortening modems of long items but shortening short items isn't good or necessary. Unfortunately for me it just looks wrong. Otherwise I might well be well on my way to a set of two power cars plus five coaches . I am still tempted....

I would say by dropping the body down to just above the track (ie slamming the body) you could make the coaches somewhat like the Spanish Talgo trains.
