Thanks again for all your kind comments, truth is, the area below that stone wall was so shaded it was pretty well useless to garden. I thought a raised trackbed would add interest and get a few rays of sunlight (when the weather improves!) It was one way of getting my wife's approval. Re a station building, I intend to build a settlement within the loop - probably call it Big Shanty after the town in the real Stealing The General scenario.

I'll try to upload the first stage of the future suspension bridge across the pond - there will be another bridge after the island.

Well here ya' go..... I've finished positioning the blocks and (approximately) laying the treated wood track base (The strange yellow capped centre pole was my loop 'centre') Now I'm not sure whether to fill and landscape the void or excavate completely, build a lift bridge in the front and use the centre as a picnic/rest area. Your Vote Counts!

I live close to the coast and miles of grey gritty (pebbly) beaches - what size mesh would you recommend to sift a reasonable scale 'sand' to use?

Preferably you could use crushed stone, not round "pebbles" as they have a tendency to 'run away', but crushed stone has jagged edges and 'locks' together a lot better.
With your base though you can get away with either as you are merely using it as a decorative touch.
Use what you think looks best
