i try not to post negative comments but this
doesnt do it for me-it did not, even momentarily, suspend disbelief, as the saying goes

while i have often thought that a horse drawn trolley or the like woud be great
and i have actually thought about this using the presier draft horses and the Grizzly Flats LGB open air narragansett style bench car
-the motion on this one is simply too crude to give any impression of a horse-
although i was inspired by the headlight potential.......
i think however, i would quite enjoy drivng this thing, given enough to drink.....i DO have a dressage and cross country background

i think id rather see a model t or some sort of rail truck pullling the car


having seen the amazing o scale bicyclist-which really looked natural -i assume with a bit of engineering the horse could be far more convincing -


i did like the vids of the 5" shay and firefly-rahter an exciting concept to have a 'ride on' in the garden-cant imagine the cost of having several nicer locos though
 
I must respectfully disagree with you Steve. I did not read the description on the Youtube page, but to me, just getting the horses legs to move would be an accomplishment.

That's brilliant Rik. When I was a boy my dad bought me a clockwork model of an American fireman who climbed up a ladder - from the way the figure in the video moves, I think it could well be a conversion of the fireman.

Maybe the mechanism was inspired by the climbing fireman. I like the way, in the description, it describes what happens if he's placed on an incline. The article also mentions the challenge of replicating horse power, but as horses don't have knee joints, the mechanism would have to be quite different.

Maybe we need to go back to Muybridge for inspiration......

The horse and wagon, on the layout in Sweden is fantastic.
The walking man was described in Garden Railways many years ago. It would be somewhat more difficult to get a four legged animal to actually walk and pull a wagon the way the walking man does.
