Did you check the links posted this morning to your “Identification Please” thread? They point you to some detailed info on how to dismantle a Stainz

Odd, I just checked the link from Shed and it took me straight to the website with the instructions. Sorry they didn’t work for you.

D‘Oh! Just realised it was the link I pointed you to that doesn’t work - it used to, honestly - worth flagging up with the Mods.

Try the link to the Waltons Models web site from Shed. They cover boiler removal and separation pretty well

Any one who says the Germans have no sense of humour should try taking a Stainz apart.

They are a little like one of those 3D wooden puzzles..

Hope the above links have helped?

The pipes either side of the smoke box, pull out from the chassis.
The water filler funnel, pulls out at the bottom, and the? Safety valve-thing? In the front of the cab, pulls out of the cab, and up out of the boiler.

I *think* that is it?

The boiler is then squeezed/twisted, to separate it from the cab..

If you do it, the first time, without any loss of blood, I think you can give yourself a pat on the back.

Yes the boiler cab end has to be squeezes or prized with a small flat blade screwdriver to pop the boile from the cab it doesnt slide up and out as one would expect from the groove it is in. then anothe judicious use of a small flat balde screwdriver to pop the bottom off the boiler you cant press the lugs in as i would have wxpected.DSCF1566.JPG

As someone said the Gremans must have a sence of humour if this is the assembly of their basic starter locamotive, Full admeration for the though that went into it. GOD now what am i going to do with all these parts?? i cant remember why i took it apart now>

Thanks Phill its knowing where to disasemble and where to add just that bit of extra pressure without breaking bits.

It’s a bit like a rite of passage - they say you have to own an Alfa Romeo to be a true petrol head, and in our world I guess once you’ve taken a Stainz apart you can truly consider yourself to be a garden railroader!
