This *may* have been in a 'Lionel Store'?

But I doubt any serious train emporium would have given it house-room?

Exactly - and you don't get many 6-4-0 locos!

Looks like something Rowland Emmett would have dreamed up if he had ever got "into" American railroads....

At least they acknowledge in the listing that it is "a little bigger than G scale"!

Jon.

Looks not too dissimilar to some of the cra 'collectable' transport items on offer in the dubious shops on the main road to the seafront in Great Yarmouth.

Isn't that what it is? Just a whimsical model of vague engineness to decorate your home? Might be a interesting challenge to fit a motor to it though.

If you fancy having a go Paul, I'm sure I've got some spare Aristo motors and gearboxes in the garage.

as far as i remember, in continental europe, the cross-heads began to appear not before the '70ies. in south america even later.
The first ones in use in this country were late 50s. I was an apprentice & I can remember cross head screwdrivers being handed out to the chaps. The screws were as rare as the loco!
