That's a '66, they were a little quicker, 58Mph, 0-58ish one week!
 
I think the ebay one is one of the Jada toys. You could at one time pick them up at your local Tesco's for a few quid.

They do custom buses and vans too, but the massive rims stuffed into the wheel arches just look so wrong on a VW bus to me.

I've got one of those, it came with a twin axle trailer and a beautifully detailed but totally overscale Beetle. Allegedly it is a 'collector's item'!
 
You're getting there Kim, but for me it needs to be lowered (not completely slammed like the Jada stuff, but subtle like), and sitting on a set of original Sprintstars, EMPI 5 spokes or Porshce Fuchs's.

The original one you posted was impressive. But I can't help thinking that in reality no-one would be that brave or radical with something as rare as a split window pickup Bet hey Rule 8 mate. I'm sure it floats someones boat.

But if someone did a crew cab in 1/24 or thereabout that looked something like these two. I'd have my wallet out in a flash.

Now you're spoiling me bud. Beautiful bugs, a 65 type 3 squareback, Karmann Ghia's and a Hebmuller. Some rare beauties there.


and lo and behold, someone has done a slammed version with massive fat rims in real life. Not my thing but I can sure appreciate the skill involved and in an odd way it's sort of pretty.

Mercedes Benz did a similar transporter for their race cars in the fifties, it was scrapped but M-B had a new one made a few years ago. Ugly as a pug... wash. Damn.
 
I know that these will not be to the taste of real VW fans like you guys but I got these for a 'mythical backwoods' VW garage near the end of the era that my line covers.

Nah the "rat look" doesn't quite float my boat Mike, but it does have a strong following in the real VW world, so it's entirely feasible to see road worthy cars in that state in reality. Not my thing, but it makes someone happy, so VW Rule 8 I guess.

I bought a Beetle from an Aircooled camper specialist in Pershore a few years back and he had yard full of campers looking very much like your models. Some completely road worthy and sold with full MOT's.
 
I can always remember the scene fro one of the 'Planet of the Apes' films where they find a cave and there in the cave is a VW Beetle that has been there for hundreds of years and they start it first time!!
