New Season on the Somerville & St Francis River

Loving the photography. Nice one.

Thanks for the kind comments guys :)

The layout is still looking a little bare at the moment as most of the buildings and structures are still in winter storage, but a few light repairs and touch ups they'll be back out for the new season too.

If anyone is up our neck of the woods please feel to drop by and see what were up to! You are more than welcome, just drop me a message and let me know.

All the best,
Gavin

very impressive
esp the use of all the rocks
I really like the look of the line curving throuch the rocky defile with the different grades of ballast / gravel infill giving depth
I'm trying to achieve a similar look, but its taking a while

Very impressive, can only agree with everyone else's comments..... now to join the pics together, add a sound track and hey presto we have a movie :admire:
Regards
Rob

Thanks again for all the kind words :)

The rocks sort of happened by accident actually! When we first started construction a few years ago we began building from the middle of the garden as this was the best place to take all the relative grades and measurements from. This area was originally just a very wide path so we needed some way in which to separate the railway and the ballast from the larger granite chips on the path. Luckly we have large rocks here in abundance, so we were experimenting by simply placing them down and it just seemed to work! It had the really pleasant effect of softening the area and helping to blend it all together in a way that other materials like log roll etc could never do. Not that I'm knocking them as materials and techniques, it's just that we set out to keep it as natural looking as we could.

All the best,
Gavin

Hi,

The sun was shinning today so I managed to squeeze in a few hours of train running to take some photos of the finished GP7. Hope you enjoy!

All the best,
Gavin
