The Zentralbahn (the old SBB Brunig line and the Lucern Stans Engelberg) have just ordered a batch of rack equipped 7 car EMUs to operate the Brunig route from 2014, thus displacing the current loco hauled workings over that route. Airconditioned, so you can't slide down the windows, and inflexible as fixed formation trains are. The RhB have embarked on a similar programme of "tramatisation" with fixed formation units, so the Swiss metre gauge railways that we all know and love will change dramatically over the next few years. Visit and see soon if you can afford to (with the SwF exchange rate as it is!).

The RhB as mentioned by Bredebahn are to introduce new EMU trainsets from 2011.

The 3 car RhB version will be able to operate on both 11 kV AC and 1 kV DC, and will be used on the Bernina line. The current order is for 15 units, to be purchased from Stadler.

Its Bo-Bo + 2-2 + Bo-Bo configuration will enable it to haul Glacier Express stock between St Moritz and Tirano in a similar fashion to the current ABe 4/4 Railcars.

The 4 car version is AC only, and the configuration of the 5 units will be Bo-Bo + 2-2 + 2-2 + 2-2....
