New 1:20 car builds

I have finally got around to post these, I wanted something to go properly with the Spectrum cars I have so a little more detailing needed than my normal builds and measurements taken from AMS brass caboose.
Both cars have extended Bachmann chassis frames from donor cars,
both have modified truck couplings to body mount with working cut bars although the boxcar has a drop coupling one end to match any truck mounts on other cars or locos,
both cars have brake gear fitted with brake chains,
boxcar has working door fasteners,
both cars have removable loads, plpes in the gondola are the plastic tubes from weighbridge ticket rolls,never chuck anything out !
cars not weathered,only faded back the lettering as appeared too bright:D

Nicely detailed models. The pealing paint look is particularly impressive!
 
I use plastic ticket rolls for all sorts of jobs, but they are nit so plentiful these days being replaced by card ones. Poopie scoopy rolls were a good option but they are now mostly cardboard.

How did you get the wood planking effect on the boxcar? Or was that part of the original Bachmann wagon you extended?

Hi Tom,
The planking and wood grain was made with a sharp knife for the plank lines and then dragged a razor over to create the grain, this is the first time I have used this method as I normally draw in the grain with a sharp knife.The bodies of the cars are scratch built from styrene sheet,strip and brass rod and tube as the only parts I use from the doner car are the chassis frame,trucks and wheels,brake wheel and grab irons, possibly use the roof walks but in this case new longer ones had to be made up then the donor body is discarded but saying that I have a few spare bodies (box car) that I have some ideas for a future project. Donor cars always cheap used items!;):D.Oh and a plug for Cambrian Models for their range of bolt and rivet detail parts !!!!:rock:

Wow - I didn't think that method of "distressing" styrene sheet would be so effective in our scale. I'd previously seen examples in OO/HO and even O, but your close up pictures make it look very convincing. In one picture, it really looks prototypical in that it emulates peeling paint!
I didn't mean to suggest that you might have reused the Bachmann bodies, but wondered if you had found a supplier of wood effect material, or a "paint on" finish which works.
