Last October our component suppliers warned us of an impending world shortage of chips and hence a steep price rise. As they predicted, within weeks the processor chips we use had increased in price from $1.50 to $14. However, happily, we had purchased substantial stocks at the old price and hence have been able to avoid any increase in the price of our soundcards over the past ten months.

However, all good things must end and we have recently had to purchase new stocks of chips but at prices which are well below their peak. As a result I'm afraid that today we have had to increase our sterling prices by 14%, partly due to the chip price rise and partly due to the fall in sterling over the past year. Premium soundcards have now gone up from sixty five pounds to seventy four pounds. However the good news is that we have plenty of stock available.

Australian prices have also gone up. The prices in the USA will remain unchanged because their exchange rate variations have offset the chip price rise.

$1:50 to $14? That's a huge hike.

Not uncommon..

Then there are lead-times, of ridiculous lengths, being quoted..
Who can wait 23 months, for a component.. Madness!

It is all the fault of the west in allowing China to be the worlds leading manufacturer of almost everything. We need to get production of things back to our own countries, but that will effect net zero calculations that appear to ignire carbon created elsewhere into the equation. Indeed we live in a mad mad world.
