We used to use old jet engines mounted on a wheeled frame, pushed by a fuel tanker, ( needed a lot of fuel) to clear the snow and ice off the runways when I was in the RAF during harsh Berlin winters.

Having re-read the post I think I might have got hold of the wrong end of the stick - the drive you are after, is it for going in motor or is it a 90 degree drill drive?

It is for a motor to turn the impellor.

Thanks anyway But Doug has sent a link which may solve the problem

The centre of the impellor now sits about in line with the top of the motor bogies so I thought about a right angle drive. However this makes the motor sit too high . So the solution seems to be UJ's to off set the drive:bleh:

All so considered an inlie 90 deg gearbox but that made the motor too high and also the price was quite high

Plastic are cheap , but weak. Metal ones seem expensive. The ratio is not a problem as I will control the motor through a chip. Thanks for the thought

Just remember the straighter the allignment the longer they last, and the less chance of failure. As much as they are flexiable they prefer to go straight.. thats why they invented the constant velocity joint instead...

But its still a great piece of engineering:clap:

The impellor is giving problems. Made the first one out of copper, bad mistake.!

So different approach required
