Actually theres a question...whats the best thing to clean track with? Some of it is really minging..so I had half a mind to give it a once over with fine wet n dry?

LGB track rubber seems to be favourite. It will work through quite a bit of crud. I use fine abrasive paper but some dont advise it because of the tiny scratches it leaves.

Itll be good to get it running properly and get a decent load behind it. Will give the track a spoodle and see what happens.

Cheers for the tip stockers. I never thought of a track rubber actually. I had one for my OO stuff years ago. Loft hunt required...

Got a bit more done today in amongst some rigorous testing. Found a few small issues as well that need attention.
Ive laid the concrete base for the tunnel. Its going to be constructed with a concrete base, two courses of bricks (side on), slabs over the top, and soil over that.

Ready for the installation of these I picked up from Tuxcraft at G Rail

Gave most of the fleet a run too

Oh and I did indeed have trouble with the 'translator vehicle' gondola derailing because it was too light.
So..I ordered several tons of cotswold buff to be delivered by rail. Fixed!

The SD70 absolutely crawls around the track even though ive cleaned it. Its better than yesterday though.

Am I right in thinking that my little 1 amp LGB power supply (that I actually only bought to make sure stuff worked) just aint man enough for the job?
I tried it with an old H&M transformer and it was fine - till the transformer overloaded and cut out :impatient:

This might sound a bit strange, but if your track lengths are short enough to fit in the dish washer? But only when SWMBO isn't looking!

I had to get my track jetwashed once, as it got covered in sewage, and it didn't do it any harm.

you will need at least a 3 amp transformer but 5amp would be best. My aristo 66 and Mallet will run on the 3 but try and run a small LGB at the same time and it all comes to a halt i have a 5 amp and that will run both the aristos how much more i havent tried

I concur with the already offered advice and would suggest a 5A minimum power supply.
I think the SD70 is a USA trains product and these have a reputation for being more "amp hungry" than, for example, Bachmann and Aristo. However that Aristo Dash 9 has four motors and a smoke unit so will need a reasonable power supply.

Ended up getting loads done yesterday. Finally got the tunnel built laid most of the remaining gravel (couple of bags short...humph!), and got the tuxcraft portals installed.

So today I relaid the track, found myself a temporay bridge (can ya tell what it is yet!) and had a bit of a play.

Ta daaaa!

Well..it was lying around in the garden, I havent built my bridge yet, and it just fitted

Well this is kind of where I reach a bit of an impass. I need to landscape the top of the garden near the house, but I cant do that till the conservatory goes in. I cant put the conservatory in until I sell my RV (big american motorhome thing). I cant sell the RV till I sort the brakes out.

Dammit. Im gonna have to have a few days away from the garden, and go get dirty on the driveway instead

Should have taken some piccies, but the whole left side of the garden is now clear all the way to the shed. Now that i also have a pretty good idea of the track plan, I can start getting things laid properly.

Going to put some membrane down tomorrow to keep the weeds at bay for now, then im going to suss where the track will actually sit. Should hopefully see some progress (and a lot more pics!) from here on in

Its all progress. Ive started laying track out roughly where I want it. Need to slew the left hand road very slightly to the left to avoid a tree stump (we tried to get it out and failed..even with a mini digger!).

This guy turned up to feed the workers. He must have made a fortune!
