It's the flywheels, Matt it's got 2!!!! Most Brit traction/road loco/showmans/rollers etc have one....on the left as a rule.

I can't work out if that new coffee pot engine is in 45mm guage or not.

Apart from the ashpan the underside of the coal fired coffee pot appears to be identical to my "Willi" (renamed Norman).
This means you can adjust the gauge to suit, the back to back gauge supplied may be used for 45mm, 32mm or 30mm.

Well spotted Neil. Actually as much as anything else I think the basic proportions are wrong- especially around the front end. The wheels are too small too...

I've got the Chaloner and I don't worry about the scale (rule 8).Who says what size an engine should be?there were thousands of builders, all different from each other.

I've no problem with any of the railway locos Allan- some are a bit "wobbly ruler" but none of those are supposed to be scale models, and to me at least they all look right- quirky maybe, but right. They are all in proportion, even if they aren't scale, or they are quirky enough for odd proportions not to matter.

The Showman's loco doesn't look right to me. It's close enough to being right to look noticeably wrong, without the "quirky" factor of the simpler railway models.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Regner and think they are brilliant locos to run.

I'm with Matt on this one - the back wheels are too dished inwards too. The overall 'look' just isn't right. I'm also a bit picky on this, as I was involved with a couple of steam rollers for years when I lived in the UK.

Now, Chaloner, however, is a different matter entirely......

I'm sorry but that model of Chaloner is just wrong. Look at the size of the boiler compared to thge real thing! As a live steam loco it's fine, but putting the Chaloner name on is a bit of an insult!

That's a nice looking machine, meths fired and IMHO good value at around £220
<Rivet counting mode on> Regner appear to have modelled dummy springs on the axleboxes. I thought the De Winton type locos were unsprung due to the arrangement of the power transmission. Chaloner certainly appears unsprung in the photos. <Rivet counting mode off>
