Media ‘so many new...’

How can I disable the notification of new media added? I’ve searched long and hard, but I cannot seem to find it... This red number distracts me each time I visit the forum.
It is the one in the main menu bar “Media 74”.

Thanks!
Hm well I just clicked on media (I had 75) and then middle right ‘Mark media viewed’ and my 75 went away. Perhaps another number will return after new Media is added.

dunnyrail dunnyrail I believe you are correct, I think it is automated so you cannot stop notifications, just "cancel" them when the figure gets to high.

+1 on this... I know (and use) the "mark media viewed" trick, but really detest the red number. If there was a way to disable this, I'd gladly pay extra for it.

The 'red number' that annoys me:
The '283' "unread" messages that came across when we moved to this new iteration of software.. I had (crudely, but it worked for me) used marking messages with useful information-in as 'unread'.. You still got new messages at the top of the list, but it was a way to keep useful stuff near the top.

BTW *IS* there a way to delete PM's in this iteration of software? - They seem to be there 'forever'. Though there was something about the Original Poster deleting them, and them disappearing from the Recipient as well??

One way of keeping the unviewed Media figure low is to view the Forum on a regular basis. You could also try actually viewing the Media that some people go to a great deal of trouble to put on the Forum, you might actually find something of interest.

Is there a relation between viewing the forum and the red number? I don’t think so? I view the forums regulary, but the number only increases.

For me there is enough to see on the forums already. The Media is nice but without explanation ‘just nice’. Most of the time I have no idea what is represented on the pictures as most of it is unknown to me.

David, the number only seems to increase slowly.. I think it is only increasing with things posted directly to the Media section, so your daily pictures, your build-threads, I see and the number does not go up??

It seems very random, and disorganised, in what it displays? - Nice (perhaps) to dip-into, but I have trouble with my obsession to read all New Content, as it is! :(;)

My gripe with Media is that some members seem to think that a picture needs to be posted in Media before it can be copied to a thread. This is not the case as photos can be posted directly to a thread without involving Media. As a result I think there are a number of photos stored in Media that are of questionable interest, quality or relevance to justify archiving.

David

I read (or skim through) all posts and all media. It doesn't have to be a slow process and keeps things tidy. I can't get my head around DCC and all the difficulties that some find (count me as the head of that queue!) but I do look at those posts. So, if it was me that had such a large amount of Media posts unread, get rid of the accumulation by clicking on and marking as viewed - then view them as they appear each day. But that's just how I would do it.

H'mm tried clicking on a smilie emogy (or however they are described) but that doesn't seem to open this morning! C'est la vie!

David, I agree with what you say, however as with most software (and that is what is forum is) often there is a lack detailed information on how to use it. When I first started (less than two years ago) I had a great deal of difficulty adding photos to a thread without adding it to the media first. Now I have a better understanding, I load images to be "archived" to my media store, and just general media straight to threads.

I understand though there are still some forum members that struggle with media both uploading and viewing.

One hour and fifty eight minutes between your posts. Which is it going to be? Are you going to scold me publicly for not "actually find[ing] something of interest" or is the media filled with, as you said, photos that "are of questionable interest, quality or relevance"?!

I'm here every day. Multiple times a day. I post TONS of MY media - that is RELEVANT to my build logs and threads. But hey, you know, that's cool... I'll take my work, how-to's, and threads somewhere else. Certainly wouldn't want to be on a forum where my efforts and contributions aren't valued simply because I don't read topics and threads that are of no interest to me, but David says I should.

For the record David, I don't find the media in that thread valuable. It's overwhelmingly pointless. Mostly random photos with no relevance or explanation.

Please carry on telling us all how we should use this forum. I'll show myself out.

Well said Jimmy, please please please let us start a new year and decade by trying to be nice to each other. We all use the forum in different ways and Media may or may not be your thing. For the record I have just one picture in Media and wondered how to find it amongst the many pages. Turned out easy by just using the Filter option on the right so perhaps I may make more use of the facility in the future or perhaps not but my choice.

I usually just view the forum without logging in and look at "Whats New" to see if anything that may interest me has been posted, I see no red numbers on Media until I login.

I have just opened "Media" now and clicked on the "mark all as viewed" button and the red number has gone.

Give that a try Henri.
