Does anyone have the newish XL II PluG decoder from Massoth? Are there any appreciable differences between it and the regular XL?

I have one in my Trainline HSB Mallet (the black one), but it was factory-fitted so I don't know much about it, sorry! I do know that a number of people have had trouble with them when fitted in this same loco - so far mine appears to be OK, touch wood - but I'm not sure whether these problems have been down to the decoder or to the loco itself.

Not experience in the flesh, but going by the manual..
Obvious difference in the PluG interface.. ;) Other than that, either more information is given in the manual for them, or the number of lighting effects has been increased. - That is the impression I get anyway.
There also appear to be solder pad connections for some connections as well.

I think the issue with the Trainline installation is that the decoder and sound board are two separate units. To stop them interacting the decoder board is locked by use of CV15 and 16 (I think its those two. from memory). So you need to change one of these before changing other CVs.
As I understand it the CVs 15 and 16 need to be of the same value to 'unlock'.
Obviously CV 15 and 16 do not 'lock' nor do the basic CVs for addressing, speed steps, etc.

The XL II decoder comes in two parts, an interface board and the decoder itself. The decoder plugs directly into the interface board. You can also easily add an eMotion S PluG module to add sound (when they become available) by plugging it directly into the interface board.

I have no knowledge of the Trainline installation.
