Massoth sound axle in lgb 2080

Does any one know if it's possible to fit a sound axle to a 3 pin gearboxed Lgb 2080? Alternatively does anyone know another way of synching wheel movement with an Ls decoder?

Are the Wheels compression fit or screwed on?

I understand that the Massoth axle is for a compression fit.

The wheels on mine are screw on ones so back to the drawing board I guess!
