hey guys,

Mark found has released his "Garden railway" series online, I've watched it since the start of the program uploads in early december, and has been vital as my plans for a polish garden railway have been renewed.

must say, the series is pretty good, but i do feel envious of his compartment coaches and the "whizzy cranks":-

Pretty good stuff, and is a good way to start a garden railway :)

Quite enjoyable to watch, but not on my computer screen. Where can I get the DVD series? I would prefer to sit in a comfortable chair and view them on a larger screen.
 
Well i dont mind putting my hand up and admitting that series was the one that lite my candle so to speak.... intresting to see An early red Hopper with Black chassis (see related Post) in episode 1 wonder if Mark knows how much its worth :rolf::rolf::rolf:

BTW just to show how up to date Google earth is according to the image Marks railway still hasnt been built yet :rolf:

Loved it back in the day, great source of info back before forums and message boards for this hobby became more common place.

Iv seen fairly recent pics of the railway, its certainly a sad sight these days.

and why anyone would DELIBERATLY engineer their line to have such awful gradients is beyond me, well perhaps if they had a rather spitful hate of the gearboxes and motors of their locos...
 
Guess Mark himself didn't have too much of a say in the construction?
I think it was David Pratt that did most of the decision making, and I even then thought some of those decisions were rather odd.
 
I'm the same as Tony, it's this series that got me interested in garden railways when it was first shown on sky - and then I lapsed a bit, until now ! (Thanks Dud :thumbup: )

And I love Mark's sense of humour ! What's more he's a very friendly bloke.
 
I really like him and enjoyed the series.
I actually think in many ways what they build is how not to do it!
I think there are many members here who would make a better consultant.
It is funny and tongue in cheek and even the mrs liked them.

I think your right, thats another thing I dont like about the series, David Pratt, if youv read his book youll know that as far as hes concerned theres only 1 way to build a garden railway and thats his way which I dont like at all.

also it might just be me but I think he comes across as a tad rude.

But its still a laugh and I do enjoy Mark Founds sense of humour :bigsmile:

Most equipment sold in the last ten years can play and display either/any format.
If you have a "full HD" or "HD ready" TV then you should be set, most $40 DVD-players and any computer can also play the DVD
 
:holdon:I've met David Pratt & his wife,who is in later episodes on a couple of occasions at the I.O.W. Steam Railway, he's a pleasant, charming man whose always willing to chat. Not rude at all. I also enjoyed his book, Garden Railways from the ground up.

I don't know, but my theory is that Mark and David did not have the best chemistry, and that seems to come to the surface on occasions in the series. Could be interpreted as rude.
Gets quite obvious on the fifth time trough the series.
