Lubricant

Can anyone advise me on the best lubricant to use with steel axles in plastic bearings?
Any help appreciated.

Labelle or Hob E Lube (Woodland Scenics) light (lite) grade oil. Both makes can be used with plasticts. I use both brands. I bought a complete "workbench" pack of the various Hob E Lube products. Would not be without them. Do not use 3 in 1. Max

Looked and found a ’workbench’ pack as you suggested Max, reckon it will be a great buy. Have in the past had the full set of Bachmann lubes, bought for my Shay and Climax now long since sold.

Do not use any household or car oil, there are lots out there, just google model railway lubricants, and make your own mind up. Problem with recommendations is if you have any issue, you could blame the person recommending it.

Like wot Max said - it's the best stuff, and if you get the pack, you get a good choice of oils and greases.

Dry graphite (which comes in the multi-pack) is good for plastic axle boxes

Like you I made sure to buy the Bachmann lubes for my Shay, Climax and Heisler. I found after a couple of seasons they gummed up so solidly that the locos would hardly move. I switched to the Hob E Lubes after de-gunking the drive trains, and haven't had that problem since.

Interesting I never had that problem.
