LSC closed - permanently?

I have never been a regular visitor to that forum so I am only guessing that it had gone the way of our own dearly departed G Scale Mad in that there were self opinionated members who were more interested in abusing each other and causing chaos than in discussing model railways topics. My only fear is that some of them will migrate to this Forum. For me, this Forum has not been without issues in the past and I did not look at it for a couple of years, but again for me it is now a happy place that I would not like to see change.

Unbelievable the nonsence that the Mods look like they have had to put up with on LSC. Sadly but very rarely we degenerate on here too, but our mods a great bunch appear to nip it in the bud in pretty short order. Long may we be a happy band that can sometimes agree to disagree with each other which is waht life is all about. After all we are all in the same game in that we enjoy playing with and making Model Railways.

One of the great ironies of our great technological advancement is that the ability to communicate to bigger and wider audiences tends to give people more isolationist tendencies.

While we have the ability for our views to be heard by a wider audience, we actually tend to communicate less, with the result that people end up talking at other people rather than talking to them.

All very wise and sage stuff - the difficult bit is remembering it when someone gets yer goat :punch::punch::punch:

It will be back, Bob just got fed up with the petty BS going on. In a week or less he will turn it back on again. Being a one man show, he puts up with alot. There were some posts that were getting a bit to personal, so he pulled the plug for a bit. To me its just an ok forum. My main interest is live steam and the forum in that site is pretty dead traffic wise. More live steam action on MLS and on Facebook. Facebook will be the eventual downfall of most forums as many have gone there for the ease of photo and video posting, espically after the whole photobucket blackmail issue. Mike the Aspie

MLS has a serious decline in posts since the new takeover and more seem to go every week.
LSC is getting more members but seems to have a problem with some members getting out of hand.
Hopefully this will change for the better.

Nah, Facebook isn't the answer to everything, in fact I don't see it as an answer to anything. You have to wade through pages of s**t to find the thread you're looking for, and you can't find it again tomorrow.

And if I want to talk with friends about trains, why do I need to wade through pictures of some boring person's meal in an even more boring restaurant?

I do look at Facebook, on average once every two weeks, and that's enough :punch::punch:

I only broke down and had my wife set me up a page, which I keep pvt, so I can keep up with the live steam scene better here in the USA. Most all the stuff for sale and steam ups are on there at not the older forums. I would rather not have it, but everybody I chat with is there, I was just chatting with Tag on there.

The fact that LSC has grown due to the bail out from MLS might be part of the issue, its not becoming to much for the sole mod to handle and not go out of his mind trying to deal with everything as well as his normal life off the net. I am sure it will sort itself out, just as when GscaleMAD closed up shop. I still miss that site dearly. My membership pin is the tail sign on my autism passenger coach. Mike

Facebook's usefulness depends on who your friends are to be frank. If you choose your friends carefully, they are no more annoying than in 'real life'. I’m on a photographic board that is not on FB, but a website like this one. Heavens but they are a bunch of self opinionated, reactionary old f*rts! The internet has given many people a license to behave like bores and idiots. Thinking back, you met idiots in pubs but either you changed pub or the better landlords sorted the idiots first.
Moderation is the key and I think the Mods here are a good bunch and on the ball. It also depends on people maintaining the common decency that the vast majority of us were brought up with.
Rant over, I’m going back to my red wine....

The problems that have been experienced on LSC, and to an extent on MLS, forums is a symptom of all 'social media' in that it gives a platform for all of us, including the a-holes who can be dogmatic, socially inept, incapable of flexibility in attitude or just looking for a fight.
Their obvious lack of fulfilment in life causes them to find gratification by either belittling the thoughts, ideas and efforts of others or just trying to be unpleasant.
Although it does happen fairly regularly on the US rail forums, it has also raised its ugly head over here too (as has been already mentioned in the case of 'G Scale Mad and the "LGB uber alles mob' which in turn caused the operator of the forum to close it down).

As to some of the 'recalcitrant' members of those forums coming to join ours, well of course this may happen, but our sense of humour will always wear them down!!

LSC is back up and running.

What a shame. Some years ago I was made unwelcome on the site because I could not tolerate Bob's lax attitude, allowing his east coast buddies to post on their then new teaparty politics and redneck views. I also could not tolerate gun toting braggards boasting of their "skill" with firearms, even to boasting a man is not really a man unless he has a gun holstered to his hip. I have no issue with guns but surely a railway forum is not a place to discuss weapons, nor is it a platform to express wacky politics.

My declining interest in largescale coincided with my "dismissal" from the site and I have never regretted not being able to post since. Most of my postings (many of which are still active on the site) were threads demonstrating how to build locomotives and rolling stock. It seems that my then "attitude" was seen as an ego issue by Bob and not a reaction to him allowing his forum buddies to carry on unchecked. I also hope that many of the protagonists on that site stay where they are and not venture across the pond.

I thought 'that's a funny thing to say', he must be joking, it certainly made me laugh, still it made a bit of comic relief, very humorous, a jolly jape.
